There May Be Honor Among Thieves, But There's None In Politicians

by Rainier on Jan. 14, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

The forces are working against us! We had nothing planned for tonight, so we were going to watch some TV, but I started to not feel well this afternoon, so that plan got ruined! Hopefully tomorrow it will be a little bit quiet in the afternoon so I can squeeze in an episode of Fringe and NCIS: LA (which I stopped following, but I have a backlog of episodes).

CrimeCraft servers were down today, so I checked out Borderlands for a bit, and I'm quite loving it. I wish the inventory/backpack was bigger, though. With gazillion of guns in the game, it would be nice to hold on to more dropped items to sell them, but so far, that's my only gripe.

You Shouldn't Keep Souvenirs Of A Killing, You Shouldn't Have Been That Sentimental

If you haven't entered our contest yet, we're giving away five Xbox 360 (NTSC) copies of Borderlands! If, for some reason, you have not picked it up yet, roll the dice!

Once again, our plan to watch some TV was foiled. Our neighbor came over to chitchat and left three hours later. We hadn't even had dinner at that point, so there no more time to be couch potatoes. Luckily, only NCIS and The Good Wife were on tonight, so we'll have to squeeze them in over the weekend. Cancel all plans!

Gentlemen, You Can't Fight In Here! This Is The War Room

Now that we have our contest capabilities again, we're giving away five Xbox 360 (NTSC) copies of Borderlands! If, for some reason, you have not picked it up yet, roll the dice!

The TV season is back from its holiday hiatus, so there are busy nights ahead, with lots of catching up to be done in the future. On some evenings, there are four to five programs to watch/record, just to give you an idea. We watched the two-hour premiere of Chuck while recording Fringe, House, Castle and Heroes.

You're A Funny Guy, But Looks Aren't Everything

by Rainier on Jan. 11, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Our lazy Sunday was lazier than we even anticipated. How's that for achievement?

We had planned on watching some movies and TV series on the DVR and ended up sleeping in late and lounging around. We did watch Heroes (in our defense, it was a two-hour ep.) and then another nap, and bam, it was time for dinner. I guess we succeeded in our plan to do nothing. :)

Our site guru Ricky has rolled out a few updates over the weekend, adding our contest feature back into the mix, so we'll be running some game giveaways that have been on hold for a few months. He made a few tweaks to the screenshot galleries and a few back-end modifications. Up next is a change to how our review scores are displayed, and then on to the comments/forum. Yay!

Mama Says They Was Magic Shoes. They Could Take Me Anywhere

by Rainier on Jan. 10, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Today was a day filled with running errands and watching some TV, just the way we like it, and since we did all our chores today, we've got absolutely nothing planned for tomorrow. Lazy Day!

We watched The Taking of Pelham 123 with Denzel Washington and John Travolta (as the bad guy), as well as the latest episodes of The Good Wife and Dollhouse.

I'm The Most Dangerous Man In This Prison 'Cause I Control The Underwear

After two previously failed attempts because the movie was sold out hours in advance, we finally managed to see Avatar in 3D tonight, and wow, it was impressive. The last time I saw anything in 3D, we were still sporting the idiotic-looking blue and red paper glasses. Tonight, we were rocking it with some normal glasses that looked like they came straight from the Blues Brothers.

No big plans for the weekend. The usual errands, some Army of Two: 40th Day, catching up on some TV shows and a DVD or two, while nodding off on the couch. Always fun ....

I'm Not Obsessing, I'm Just Curious

by Rainier on Jan. 8, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

The CES in full swing! I'll be checking out the new mobile phones — the Google phone in particular, since our current contract is about to expire and we're in the market for new cell phones.

We finished watching Up, and if you haven't seen it yet, it's great. It's a bit of an emotional roller coaster but damn good. On the flip side, we also watched Echelon Conspiracy, and for a movie with big names like Edward Burns, Ving Rhames and Jonathan Pryce, it sure was majorly disappointing.

Tonight, we may try to see Avatar again. I hope the third time's the charm, as the shows were sold out hours in advance for our two previous attempts.

The Man Is Clear In His Mind, But His Soul Is Mad

by Rainier on Jan. 7, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Tomorrow the CES kicks off, and while most of the exhibition is centered on technology/electronics and gadgets, there will probably be a few game announcements left and right, like Microsoft's new Game Room initiative.

In late 2008, we went to see Nine Inch Nails when they were in town for their Lights In The Sky tour, which was without a doubt one of the best concerts we've ever seen. For a variety of reasons, NIN was unable to capture it professionally for a theatrical or commercial release, so instead they released raw HD footage from three different shows to the fans and see what they could come up with. For 12 months, a core team of dozens of fans and a network of thousands spanning the entire globe pooled their efforts to create a professional-quality 1080p 5.1 concert film, and they have released it in every format, from Blu-ray and DVD to iPod and YouTube.

Why do I mention this? 'Cause the end result is amazing, and it's free!

Is Life Always This Hard, Or Is It Just When You're A Kid?

by Rainier on Jan. 6, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Back to the old routine, which is not always a bad thing. Slow news days are rather boring, so while the light news during the holidays was a welcome reprieve from the daily madness, I'm equally happy when things go back to normal.

Played a bit more Torchlight and, of course, CrimeCraft, and looking forward to check out Divinity II. Maybe I'll get an extra copy of Darksiders; been hearing good things about it.

We were debating between watching Up or Echelon Conspiracy, but eventually settled on the newest episode of NCIS. We're lazy!

I Didn't Realize You Were An Art Collector. I Thought You Just Collected Corpses

by Rainier on Jan. 5, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Man, was I tired today. For some reason, this weekend drained me, and all systems shut down this afternoon. I had to take a quick power nap. Before passing out, I wanted to play some CrimeCraft, but since the server was down for maintenance, I booted up Torchlight again, and that game sucked me in for hours again. Think I'll have to spend more time with it so I can properly level up my character.

Met up with one of our friends who recently moved out of state, and we of course had to re-celebrate the New Year with copious amounts of alcohol. *cheers*

Old Age. It's The Only Disease That You Don't Look Forward To Being Cured Of

by Rainier on Jan. 4, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

The holidays are official over, so it's back to work we go. I'm sure it will be somewhat quiet for the next few weeks until companies rev up again and reveal upcoming titles or launch new games that were delayed from the holiday run-up.

We did not do much on Sunday, since the missus was still having back issues, so we lounged around the house, play some more Rock Band 2 and CrimeCraft, and finished up Alfred Hitchcock's 1946 Notorious.

I Think I Must Have One Of Those Faces You Can't Help Believing

Apologies for the late, late start today. Our little get-together lasted longer than expected, and with all the prep, we were totally bushed afterward so when everybody was sent on their merry way, we zonked out. Playing a few hours of Lips, Rock Band, Guitar Hero and The Beatles: Rock Band also wears you out.

Depending on how the missus is feeling when she wakes up — she was complaining that her back hurt — we might go over to Adam's place to see Armored (he downloaded it off PSN for free) in his condo's mini-theater.

But first, some coffee ....

Hope Is A Dangerous Thing, Hope Can Drive A Man Insane

It's our second day into the new year! Hope everybody had a safe transition from old to new. Here we are preparing for our annual belated New Year's Bash. A few friends are coming over for food & drinks, and discuss our good intentions for the coming year ... knowing that we'll most likely get none of them done.

Today we relaxed, did some shopping, prepping, and a feeble attempt at switching out a broken brake light, so a trip to the auto repair shop is on the schedule for later today.

The entire WorthPlaying team wishes everybody a Happy New Year! We hope everybody had a safe transition from old to new, and may 2010 be even better than last year. Finally after many years, we managed to launch our new site, which is only the beginning. Thank you for sticking around, spread the word, and let's make things even better!

One Cannot Be Betrayed If One Has No People

by Rainier on Dec. 30, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Ahh it's good to be home again!

After a 10-hour trip, with a 2-hour pit stop at The Hitching Post for some fabulous BBQ/ribs/steak, we made it home in one piece, minus a popped brake light, it seems. All in all, it was a successful road trip.

Coverage will return to normal as we get ready for New Year's Eve shenanigans.

Of All The Gin Joints, In All The Towns, In All The World, She Walks Into Mine

by Rainier on Dec. 29, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Today was one of those days where we were busy but did not really do anything in particular. We went to dimsum with some relatives and then drove around doing a few errands. When we finally came back, we decided to watch a few movies on Netflix Instant Watch that are about to expire in January, Wargames 2 and Art of War 2. Both were quite subpar, but it's not as if  we had anything else of importance to do.

On a side note, our trip up the coast is back on. We're leaving around noon, making a pit stop in Santa Maria for BBQ, and then home sweet home. At last ....

I Settle Down With A Nice Girl Every Night, Then I'm Free The Next Morning

by Rainier on Dec. 28, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Our Christmas trip is coming to an end, as later today we'll be flying back to home sweet home.

Today we went to the Military Museum, which was pretty cool, although it's a bit sad that the memorabilia, some of it dating back to WWI, hasn't been kept in better condition. Even a regular coat of paint would do wonders for some of the equipment that's on display, but all the tanks, howitzers and even a Huey helicopter were a sight to behold.

To kill some extra time, we watched some Bill Engvall stand-up specials and Pineapple Express.

Intelligence. Nothing Has Caused The Human Race So Much Trouble As Intelligence

by Rainier on Dec. 27, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Our little trip is coming to an end. Some family drama is preventing us from taking our little drive up the coast, so instead we are flying back. So much for our much anticipated pit stop for a BBQ feast. On the upside, I guess we'll be home sooner ....

We went and saw Sherlock Holmes yesterday, and I must admit that it was quite enjoyable. The theater was packed, and the movie was equally as action-packed as it was funny. During our Thanksgiving trip, we passed by an outdoor military museum filled with old tanks, artillery and planes, so we are going to check that out in a bit. Should be fun.

You Want To Talk To God? Let's Go See Him Together, I've Got Nothing Better To Do

by Rainier on Dec. 26, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

A Merry Christmas to all of you! Hope you had a great holiday and got loads of goodies from Santa!

For Christmas Eve, we went to a nice Brazilian BBQ place and got stuffed beyond belief. If you've never been to a Brazilian BBQ place, then you should really give it a go. It's basically a buffet where you have an open salad bar and the waiters come around with huge skewers of steak, sausages, chicken and so forth. There are over a dozen types of meat, and you can eat as much as you want.

The festivities are over, but we're staying a few extra days with the in-laws and will probably see Sherlock Holmes later today.
