Sony Releases Holiday Sales Numbers

After Microsoft showed off its holidays hard/software sales numbers, Sony put its cards on the table revealing that hardware retail sales across its three platforms reached more than 3.9 million units in North America from Nov. 23, 2007 to Dec. 31, 2007.

Skype Features Officially Coming to PSP

Bully: Scholarship Edition tells the story of 15-year-old Jimmy Hopkins as he experiences the highs and lows of adjusting to a new school. Bully is coming to the X360 and the Wii on March 4, and the first details about the promised new content have been revealed. Eight new missions, four new school classes (biology, music, math and geography), new unlockable items and clothing, new two-player offline minigames, new awards and Achievements.

'L.A. Noire' (PS3/X360) Game Details

L.A. Noire is an interactive detective story set in the 1947 classic noir period situated in an exact recreation of mid century Los Angeles. L.A. Noire draws players into an open-ended challenge to solve a series of gruesome murders, but also side missions based on real events from that period. Developer Team Bondi hired a costume designer to accurately portray the time period. While previously pegged as a PS3 exclusive, a job listing for a new Lead Animator reveals "the project" to be on PS3 and X360.

'God of War III' (PS3) Development 'In Good Hands'

Last year former God of War creative director David Jaffe left to form his own studio Eat Sleep Play, and late 2007 studio director Cory Barlog also left in order to "pursue other opportunities." While Barlog has yet to give any details what his current plans are, he did state that God of War III development "is in good hands" at the Santa Monica studio, and that prior to leaving he worked on the story and design for the third game. The foundation of the game, along with story that completes the arc we began in God of War, was complete, and the trilogy "is going to finish off with a very big, very epic bang."

'Demigod' Revealed

The newest Games for Windows issue has the first details on Gas Powered Games' latest title, Demigod, according to 1UP. Labeled as an action/RPG/RTS hybrid, Chris Taylor's development studio, known for Dungeon Siege, Supreme Commander, and currently working on Space Siege, is influenced by Defense of the Ancients, a community-created mod for Blizzard's RTS Warcraft III. There is no resource-gathering or micromanagement in Demigod. You control one hero unit; some have special powers to create other units and buildings, while others defeat enemies on their own merit. The game will be multiplayer focused, support co-op and have a single-player portion that mainly serves as a tutorial. More details to follow shortly ...

Free Arcade Game to Compensate for Xbox Live Holiday Woes

Microsoft's Xbox Live General Manager Marc Whitten made an official statement regarding the Xbox Live hiccups over the holidays, when users reported connectivity issues. The system had trouble coping with the influx of new user sign-ups, and to compensate, Microsoft will be offering all Xbox Live members around the world access to a free download of an Xbox Live Arcade game. Specifics to be announced later.

'Burnout Paradise' (PS3/X360) Demo's Online Capabilities Doubled

Burnout Paradise gives players license to wreak havoc in Paradise City, the ultimate seamless racing battleground, with a massive infrastructure of traffic-heavy roads to abuse. Having been criticized since the demo's release, Criterion announced that from Jan. 4-14, it will increase the number of players that can join in an online session of Burnout Paradise from 4 to 8, which in turn opens up new 13 new Freeburn challenges (3 challenges in 5-, 6- and 7-player sessions, and 4 new challenges for those playing in 8-player sessions).
