"At the core of Roma Victor's development is the quest for historical authenticity. By integrating SpeedTree, we are able to ensure that each region of the game world is populated with the appropriate tree and flora species," said Kerry Fraser-Robinson, RedBedlam's President and Managing Director. "For us it's more than mere cosmetics – woodland plays an essential role in the second century, making excellent terrain for barbarians to hide in and to launch ambushes from. In testing, Roman players are already discussing which woods to chop down for strategic reasons, mimicking their counterparts from over 1,800 years ago."
SpeedTree will also enhance Roma Victor's virtual economy by reflecting regional differences, which will have a noticeable effect on the complex trade and craft systems – mostly by adding value to authentic goods crafted from rare or remote wood species.
The use of SpeedTree also allows Roma Victor's realistic weather patterns to be more thoroughly visualised as the movement of leaves and branches helps to indicate the strength and direction of the wind, with deciduous trees even shedding their leaves during autumn.
SpeedTree has added an extra level of atmosphere and authenticity to what is already one of the most atmospheric and authentic MMORPG projects.
