'Splitgate: Arena Warfare' Slightly Delayed, Partners with SLIVER.tv Esports Platform

by Rainier on May 22, 2019 @ 1:25 p.m. PDT

Splitgate is a multiplayer first-person shooter that uses player-controlled portals to create a new dimension of arena combat.

Splitgate: Arena Warfare evokes your favorite memories of the most-revered shooters of the past two decades, embracing the classic and familiar feel of arena multiplayer with a multi-directional twist. Splitgate: Arena Warfare’s world-bending portal mechanic lets players instantly create and link gateways around the map, encouraging and rewarding constant jetpack-boosted movement, strategic flanking and ambushes, and action that truly embraces all 360 degrees. It also looks really cool.

Splitgate: Arena Warfare is designed to be equally accessible to first-time and veteran FPS players, with an infinitely high skill cap that will take players hundreds of hours to refine and master. Splitgate is built in Unreal Engine 4 by 1047 Games, a passionate group of Halo fans, whose experience and love for the genre transcends the typical development team.

Splitgate developer 1047 Games has partnered with blockchain Esports entertainment platform SLIVER.tv. Exclusive in-game items will be available to viewers who watch streamers broadcast Splitgate gameplay to SLIVER.tv; viewers will automatically share their upload bandwidth and earn Theta Fuel, or “TFuel” for short. TFuel can be used to purchase exclusive gun skins in the SLIVER shop or generously donated back to the streamers.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with SLIVER.tv and bringing unique TFuel rewards to Splitgate players,” said Ian Proulx, co-founder of 1047 Games. “The streamers benefit from seeing tons of engaged viewers, who earn exclusive skins for watching Splitgate gameplay, and we, the developer, get more players enjoying our game. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!”

While viewing Splitgate matches on community-driven live streaming platform SLIVER.tv, players will be able to earn TFuel simply by logging in and watching live content. Viewers can also use TFuel to purchase in-game exclusive skins or for discounts on real-world products from sponsors.

“It made perfect sense for us to partner up with such a promising game as Splitgate and get our streamers involved” said Mitch Liu, co-founder, and CEO of SLIVER.tv and Theta Labs, Inc. “With our combined unique Theta Fuel in-game rewards and blockchain technology, viewers become part of the Esports experience, driving substantial engagement and retention for our partners and games.”

At the same time Splitgate: Arena Warfare developer 1047 Games has decided to push the launch (original today) until later this week

"No one is as disappointed as we are that we have had to delay Splitgate’s launch. The Splitgate development team has been working nonstop, around the clock since the open beta to implement improvements, take your feedback, and fix bugs. We were hopeful that we would meet the deadline. We deeply apologize for the short notice on the delay."

"As gamers ourselves, we know how frustrating that is, especially for people who rearranged their schedules in order to play this morning. We also know how frustrating it is to play games that are buggy or release too soon. We really thought we were good to go, but our final build in the early morning hours had a few a problems that needed to be addressed in order for us to release at a quality that we are proud of. So again, we deeply apologize and hope you’ll stick with us. We hope it will be worth the wait! See you in the arena Friday the 24th."

Constant movement is encouraged and rewarded as players strategically place portals to FLY, FLANK and FRAG through the air to create incredible, previously-impossible highlights.

Instead of a complicated and convoluted matchmaking system,Splitgate: Arena Warfare uses a simple, intuitive 1-50 ranking system determined purely on player wins and losses, cutting down on in-game griefing while providing little incentive for player boosting.

Players start each match with the same loadout, eliminating any unfair advantages from the start. Power weapons spawn on a timer across the map, and players are encouraged to use these powerful weapons to achieve montage-worthy killstreaks.

Standard FPS controls and intuitive portal mechanics mean beginners are up and running right off the bat. However, players must constantly evolve strategies and their ability to think with portals in order to outsmart one another. The skill cap is unlimited.

Splitgate: Arena Warfare will launch for free on PC via Steam on May 24, 2019.
