'World of Warships: Legends' (ALL) Will Be Adding More Russian Navy, New Campaign Next Week - Trailer

by Rainier on March 5, 2020 @ 7:18 a.m. PST

World of Warships: Legends is a free-to-play naval action MMO based on sea battles of the 20th century that complete the "World of" war trilogy.

Keeping with the best traditions of the series, World of Warships will offer a straightforward interface, easy-to-use controls, and a common economic system that will allow players to distribute resources between the three games for the ultimate progress in each of them.

The large assortment of available warships will give various tactical opportunities, as all the machines have a unique combination of firepower, speed, armor, and endurance. Various naval maps with changing weather conditions will enrich the gameplay, and the realistic graphics will transport players into the epic battles that changed the course of human history.

You will move through tiers of ships trying out various legendary vehicles in the process and training your commanders to best accommodate available sets of weaponry and hull characteristics. Choose from two types of shells, launch torpedoes and outsmart your opponents. If you like blunt force, several ships will cater to your interests as well, be it destroyers that can stealthily approach the enemies or battleships with high risk/high reward salvos, which take a long time to reload, but wreak havoc if targeted well. Cruisers are the jacks of all trades that will be appreciated by players looking for a middle ground.

When it comes to nations, World of Warships currently has 10 represented in the game. Major ones are: Japan, USA, USSR, Germany, Britain and France. There are also selected vehicles available for the Pan-Asian, Polish, Italian and Commonwealth navies. The number of ships in the game is always growing and you should be able to find something suitable to your playstyle pretty easily.

On March 9, World of Warships: Legends players will be able to immerse themselves in a wave of new Russian naval content. This update brings Russian cruisers into the game, a new campaign, and a preview of the upcoming Russian destroyers. The Reds are coming in force to stake their claim in the seas of World of Warships: Legends.

The seven new Russian and Soviet Cruisers rely on powerful flat-shooting guns to punish enemy vessels from a safe distance. Keeping this range is important for any daring Russian navy captains, as these ships can be quite vulnerable in mid-range engagements. However, at higher tiers these cruisers have the tools for intrepid players to stay safe—fast, short-ranged torpedoes and radar. This gives them the ability to foil the plans of stealthy destroyers trying to counter. Players will find that these Soviet cruisers offer immense potential for racking up damage as long as they avoid taking too much of a beating.

The new campaign, "War and Peace," fits nicely with the Red Fleet’s cruisers. At the end of this 95-level campaign lies the Mikhail Kutuzov, a highly capable Russian cruiser that saw service throughout the Cold War. In World of Warships: Legends, this Cold War challenger pairs the outstanding performance of the Russian cruiser gun, complete with Smoke Generator and Sonar consumables. This means that the Mikhail Kutuzov can stealthily bombard enemies with ease by creating temporary concealment. On the way through “War and Peace,” players will earn a pile of consumables, equipment, and more. There will even be an oppertunity to get one of the early access Russian destroyers.

The Russian destroyers in early access range from tier III to tier VI and are true gunboats. These destroyers, such as the brilliant Tier V Gnevny, really shine in gunnery duels where they can use firepower to batter lone cruisers, whittle down battleships, and utterly demolish enemy destroyers. Their fast but short-ranged torpedoes are best used in an ambush to deal devastating blows on unsuspecting enemies.  Players can get the chance to play them early through the new Soviet Containers, a few of which will also available in the War and Peace campaign!

Six new esteemed commanders represent the new nation. They cover a large section of Imperial Russian and Soviet naval history from the Russo-Turkish war into the Cold War. These commanders bring new inspirations and abilities to enhance player's ships and make their new Russian fleet the best it can be. For example, Stepan Makarov, brings his lusciously bearded visage to command and improve your Russian Navy cruisers.

And make sure to keep a lookout for something entirely different on the horizon for our April Fool's celebrations, but keep it quack... ahem, quiet!

There are 7 tiers of ships in total and you begin at tier I with late XIX to early XX century cruisers. Vehicle tiers can be separated in two distinct timelines - tiers I-IV belong to the "dreadnought era", while everything from tier V and above is grouping the WWII ships.  After playing several battles with them and getting acquainted with controls and basic mechanics, you'll move over to tier II cruisers, that are faster, better armed, more sturdy and have a choice of armament (high-explosive or armor-piercing shells). From there you'll be able to branch out into the destroyers which are all about stealth and high risk-high reward gameplay. Tier III will allow you to try out the battleships which bring huge salvos and armor, yet lack in maneuverability.

Maps are square with sizes range from 24x24 km to 18X18 km. Smaller maps are usually reserved for lower tiers, bigger - for higher. The maps are quite different both in size and island distribution. You will see all kinds of landscapes: from the icebergs of Arctic to the tropics of southeast Asia.

World of Warships: Legends is available on PS4 and Xbox One.
