'Neverwinter' Jewel of the North Module Comes to PC This Month, Consoles in Fall, Adds Bard Class, Quality Of Life Updates - Trailer

by Rainier on July 13, 2021 @ 4:42 p.m. PDT

In Neverwinter, players choose to become one of five classic D&D classes and team up with friends or NPCs to form five-person co-op groups. Players also create their own storylines and quests utilizing a user-friendly content generation system.

Players explore the vast city of Neverwinter and its surrounding countryside, learning the vivid history of the iconic city and battling its many enemies. In Neverwinter, players can create their own quests and campaigns with the Foundry, a powerful content creation tool that allows players to seamlessly integrate their adventures in to the live game world.

They might not be the most pleasant-looking creatures, but they are definitely a fierce bunch of savage and bloodthirsty warriors. By plaguing the civilized races, Orcs have always been a major threat to humans, elves and dwarfs. Laying claim to the area in the northern half of the old Tower District, Orcs have made the Cloak Tower in Neverwinter their home.

Even the most courageous heroes will have to fight their way through the ruins of this district to put an end to the Orc domination and help restore Neverwinter to her former glory.

Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios announced that Neverwinter’s next module, Jewel of the North, will launch for PC on July 27, 2021, and for PS4 and Xbox One in Fall 2021.

The upcoming major update will return Neverwinter to its Dungeons & Dragons roots by introducing the iconic and multi-skilled Bard class, along with major quality-of-life improvements, including a new streamlined leveling system which makes it easier for all players to experience the many adventures the free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons action MMORPG has to offer.

“With Jewel of the North, we wanted to make it easier than ever for players to create a character and set out on adventures throughout the Forgotten Realms”, said Matt Powers, Executive Producer for Neverwinter. “The leveling experience has been streamlined, now better aligning with the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop experience, and we’re extremely excited to bring the highly-expressive Bard class to Neverwinter.”

Neverwinter: Jewel of the North will introduce the new stylish Bard class, based on the popular Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition class. Players who choose the Bard class become daring heroes who possess the ability to weave magic into their swords, use music to inspire allies, manipulate minds, and even heal wounds. With the ability to select one of two unique Paragon Paths -- the swashbuckling, close-ranged damage dealing Songblade path, or the master musician, ranged-casting Minstrel -- players will find that the new class offers an arsenal of unique abilities that are based on the power of music.

Along with the new class, Neverwinter: Jewel of the North will be one of the first modules since the action’s MMORPG’s launch eight years ago in June 2013 to greatly improve the ways in which players can access and enjoy all of the content in Neverwinter. One of the major changes is the new streamlined leveling system which follows the beloved system found in Dungeons & Dragons, as the max level cap in Neverwinter will be changed from level 80 to level 20. With this change, new and returning players are able to reach epic-level content much faster (in approximately 10-12 hours) -- while veteran players will be able to have the option to quickly level up their alternate characters, and have even more players to party up with to take on challenging quests. Players mid-way through leveling will be boosted to level 20, and for those who currently have max level characters, all of their stats and item power levels will remain the same; the only change is their character level will now be set to 20. All existing players are eligible for a new gear pack which can be claimed via the Rewards Claim Agent. In addition to the new leveling system, Neverwinter: Jewel of the North will bring additional quality-of-life changes, such as early game performance improvements, a revamp of in-game tutorials and a new Adventures system.

The latest major update for the free-to-play MMORPG set in the Forgotten Realms brings Neverwinter players back to the mystical land of Sharandar -- originally introduced in the first Neverwinter module, Fury of the Feywild -- where they’ll experience a completely revamped and re-visualized world. Each episode introduces new features to Sharandar, including a brand-new social hub, new story content, re-imagined adventure zones to explore, new enemies to fight, a new end-game dungeon, and more!

In Neverwinter: Sharandar, an unsettling darkness creeps across the Feywild and the age-old elven stronghold of Sharandar. Brutish creatures kill any foolish enough to enter the lands once held by Malabog the Fomorian King. Deep in the forest, rumors of an ancient fey being, together with scattered bands of Malabog’s minions, seek to conquer Sharandar and seize its arcane secrets.

The story of Neverwinter: Sharandar is experienced over three episodes. The first episode, The Iron Tooth launches February 9 on PC and March 9 on console. Adventurers are sent to the Ruins of Malabog to investigate the disappearance of an elven dignitary. This episode introduces new and returning players to the Feywild lands of Sharandar, in which they’ll find the New Sharandar social hub, the Ruins of Malabog Adventure Zone, and the Vault of Stars dungeon, along with epic rewards.

The next two episodes, Episode 2: The Soul Keeper and Episode 3: The Odious Court, continue the story of Neverwinter: Sharandar at a later date. Players have the chance to experience the transformation of Sharandar as they take on the sinister new threat revealed in the first episode and push back the darkness. More details, including features, for these episodes will be revealed soon.

Neverwinter is available on PC and is free to play digitally on Xbox One (with Xbox Live Gold) and PS4 (PlayStation Plus not required).
