'Battlefield 2042' Leviathan Rising Event Features New 8v8 Shutdown Mode With 10-15 Minute Matches - Trailer

by Rainier on April 6, 2023 @ 11:18 a.m. PDT

Battlefield 2042 is a groundbreaking first-person shooter set to revolutionize the modern multiplayer sandbox.

Powered by cutting-edge technology that pushes the capabilities of next generation hardware, the game drops players into a near-future, all-out-war experience that includes the franchise’s hallmark, game-changing destruction.

Featuring matches filled with up to 128 players and massive-scale maps on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PCs (Xbox One and PS4 are capped at 64 players and reduced map sizes), this unprecedented scale adds a new dimension to multiplayer battles.

Battlefield 2042 also ups the action with the inclusion of real-time events that reshape the battlefield and tactical combat. All new weapons, vehicles and gadgets give players the freedom to be strategic and create jaw-dropping, only-in-Battlefield moments.

In Battlefield 2042, the world is on the brink. Shortages of food, energy and clean water have led to dozens of failed nations, creating the greatest refugee crisis in human history. Among these Non-Patriated, or No-Pats, are families, farmers, engineers - and even soldiers. Amidst this crisis, the United States and Russia draw the world into an all-out war. No-Pat Specialists join both sides, not fighting for a flag, but for the future of the Non-Patriated in this new world.

Players will jump into the boots of Specialists, an all-new type of playable soldier for the franchise. Inspired by the traditional four Battlefield classes, Specialists will be equipped with their own unique Specialist Trait and Specialty, and will have fully customizable loadouts. As a Specialist, players will have access to a cutting-edge arsenal of weapons, equipment and vehicles to use in battle. These powerful new tools give creative players a wealth of options as they find the perfect combination to fit their play style and outsmart and outgun opponents on the battlefield.

Leviathan Rising will run for two weeks, starting on Tuesday, April 11 and running through April 25 @ 5am PT / 12pm UTC. The event will include a new two-round, 8v8 16-player Shutdown Mode, where attackers and defenders can swap sides at the end of each 10-15 minute match. The smaller infantry-focused layouts will be accessible on the Flashpoint, Exposure, Manifest and Stranded maps.

A pure tactics game mode where every second of objective play counts, Shutdown’s high-stakes competitive gameplay features a Battlefield twist - with classes, complex loadouts, specialists and transport vehicles all combining meaningfully - and player-deployed objectives to make every round feel different. The unique side-swapping ensures players see both sides of the battle, creating equal winning chances for squadplay and class-play.

During the two-weeks, players will be able to earn free rewards and can purchase store bundles, in addition to a plethora of cosmetics, including legendary outfits and weapons skins, as well as epic outfits, weapon skips and vehicle skins.

BATTLEFIELD BRIEFING – LEVIATHAN RISING

Welcome to Leviathan Rising.

We invite you to join us on the Battlefield for a new special in-game event between April 11 @ 12:00 UTC until April 25 @ 12:00 UTC*.

Wherever hostile forces threaten the No-Pats' future, the dreaded Leviathan Division is there to strike them down. As a member of Blasco's elite task force, your mission is to sabotage the enemy's operation and force their retreat.

Remember what you’re fighting for, No-Pats.

THIS IS SHUTDOWN

Think you know everything about close-quarters combat? Think again. Welcome to Shutdown, where time is not your ally, only your squad is. Work as one unit and operate with confidence, and dominate your enemy in two rounds to claim victory:

Attack, Plant & Protect - Infiltrate enemy objectives & plant the Lances; a new mode objective in Shutdown, protect them, and score as many points as possible.

Defend, Locate & Disable - Locate and eliminate Lance Carriers, prevent their dropped Lances from being picked up, and defuse any that do get planted, with prejudice.

Master these objectives, and you’ll be unstoppable. Class-play is imperative in this 8v8 small-scale infantry focused experience. No one gets left behind. Make every move count. Your squad depends on it.

Shutdown features new mechanics allowing you new ways to experience Battlefield:

  • Play the Objective - The Lance: The ESA-500 Lance is a portable microwave device that fries data drives in a limited radius. Attackers can plant it where they choose inside predefined objective areas populated with crates full of said data drives, scoring points as long as the Lance stays alive, and culminating in a shutdown. Defenders on the other hand, can disable it with a short timed interaction. Playing it smart, and outwitting your enemy is key to Shutdown. Plant the Lance in the open and bait your enemy, hide it in a corner, protect it with your gadgets and throwables, or find an approach of your own, the choice is yours.
  • Shut it down: When a planted Lance scores enough points in an objective, it results in a shutdown of the objective and fully removes it from the map. Expect pure chaos as you start clearing more objectives and are forced closer and closer together with the enemy team.
  • Secure Victory: You'll play a round as both Attacker, and Defender. When the first round ends, you will switch sides and redeploy. You’ll secure victory by scoring the most points as the Attacking side while you battle it out within these fast-paced matches.

You’ll play Shutdown with smaller layouts on Manifest, Exposure, Stranded, and Flashpoint.

TIPS AND TRICKS TO DOMINATE SHUTDOWN

General Tips:

  • Use smokes. They can hide Lances, Lance Carriers, and Lance defusers.
  • Shut down vulnerable objectives. You’ll receive a large bonus by draining them of all their points. Shift focus towards objectives with fewer points remaining.
  • Mirror the enemy. You’ll play each game of Shutdown as both Attacker and Defender. Any dominant strategy you see from the enemy team can be used against them in the next round.

Attackers

  • Get Creative. The Lance can be planted anywhere. Your creativity and the bounds of the objective area are your only limit. Use your gadgets and equipment strategically.
  • Play your Class. With the return to the Class System, each Class now has a distinct role to play. Your allies will need you at your best for revives, resupplies, forward spawning, information gathering, and infiltration. Adapt to the match, and try new things.

Defenders

  • Guard dropped Lances. When a Lance shuts down an objective, or when a Lance carrier is killed, the Lance remains in play for 60 seconds before resetting and respawning at the Attackers HQ. Prevent retrieval by any means necessary.
  • Learn the layouts. Attackers will use predictable paths to approach objectives. Learn these, set up ambushes, and attackers on the objective won't be a problem.

Now you’re fully briefed, we’re extremely excited to have you experience Shutdown! We’ve had a ton of fun playtesting it internally, and it offers that close-quarters chaos we know you enjoy. There are of course also new shinies to get your hands on.

Lastly: Stick to your squadmates, play your Class, adapt to the enemy, and most importantly PTFO.

GLHF,

//The Battlefield Team

Battlefield 2042 includes 3 distinct multiplayer experiences:

  • All-Out Warfare - the next generation of fan-favorite modes Conquest and Breakthrough, featuring the largest maps ever for the franchise and for the first time, up to 128 players (on XSX, PS5 and PC). Experience the intensity of All-Out Warfare in large-scale battles like never before on maps filled with dynamic weather, dangerous environmental hazards and spectacular world events that see tornadoes rip across the map and sandstorms block out the sun.
  • Hazard Zone - an all-new, high-stakes, squad-based game-type for the Battlefield franchise that is a modern take on the multiplayer experience that is distinctly DICE but very different from All-Out Warfare’s Conquest or Breakthrough modes.
  • Portal Mode - A first for the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield Portal is a community-driven platform designed to offer a huge variety of imaginative experiences by giving players the tools to set their own rules and build their own definitive Battlefield experience - and share them with other people.

All Out Warfare launches with seven maps total. Let’s take a quick tour of those:

  • Kaleidoscope [Sogdo, South Korea] This cityscape features dense roadways and skyscrapers that can be explored, or if you’ve a wingsuit, leapt off. It’s here that a tornado that dwarves the glittering buildings will make its presence known.
  • Manifest [Brani Island, Singapore] Supply lines are under threat in this key location for global trade.
  • Orbital [Kourou, French Guiana] Players will battle in the shadow of a towering space rocket pad that’s counting down to an imminent launch.
  • Discarded [Alang, India] Clash around, through and on top of massive ship hulks and the surrounding cranes.
  • Renewal [Eastern Desert, Egypt] Wrestle for control of an agriculture technology centre in the Egyptian Desert.
  • Hourglass [Doha, Qatar] An approaching sandstorm will shift the tide of war taking place at the heart of a city.
  • Breakaway [Queen Maud Land, Antarctica] From hot deserts to icy landscapes: oil and gas are the key resources being fought over here. Insert on the mountaintops with a wingsuit and you can dive into industrial buildings below.

Post launch, Battlefield 2042’s first year promises four seasons of content, bringing with them four new Specialists plus new locations. Each season is marked by a new Battle Pass. EA confirms that new locations will be accessible to all players.

Battlefield 2042 is available for Xbox One, PS4, PC ($59.99), for Xbox Series X|S and PS5 ($69.99).
