'Valheim' Hildir's Request Early Access Update Adds Hard Mode, New Customizations And Vendor

by Rainier on June 16, 2023 @ 8:34 a.m. PDT

Valheim is an exploration and survival game set in a procedurally generated world, offering players unlimited freedom to build and live the saga of their dreams, cooperatively or alone.

Are you worthy of entering Valhalla? You have been sent to Valheim, the 10th Norse world. Only by defeating the mighty beasts of these lands will you win the favor of the gods. This quest will take you to the far reaches of this world, from the deepest forest to the highest mountain peak.

Valheim is an open-world exploration survival game set in a vast procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by norse mythology and viking culture. Players are tasked with taking back the realm from the ancient enemies of Odin, building mead halls and castles, crafting weapons and armour, and sailing the seas in search of new horizons and win the favor of the gods.

Valheim is a game about exploring a huge fantasy world inspired by norse mythology and viking culture. You start your adventure at the relatively peaceful center of Valheim. The further from the center you travel, the more challenging the world becomes. But you will also find more valuable materials that you can use to craft deadlier weapons and sturdier armor. You will also build your own viking strongholds and outposts all over the world. Eventually you will build a mighty longship and sail the great oceans in search of exotic lands … but be wary of sailing too far...

Valheim is a huge procedurally-generated world, inviting players to explore lush forests, snow-topped mountain ranges and mystical meadows, all presented in striking Lo-Fi graphics. Valheim offers a dodge & block based combat system with a wide range of weapons for deathless vikings to battle primordial bosses of myth and legend. The viking adventure is playable solo, or with up to nine friends as no one wants to repeatedly face death alone. Between deaths, Valheim offers a flexible house and base building system, intuitive item crafting and ship building, and dedicated servers.

Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio welcome Hildir, merchant à la mode, to Valheim for an initial public testing period. As well as providing players with a sizable wardrobe of cosmetics, Hildir will also send players on a journey to recover her store inventory. New difficulty levels and game options also land on Valheim’s shores to improve and spice up general gameplay.

Sister of the mysterious cloaked dwarf trader Haldor, Hildir peddles a variety of aesthetic wares, including fashionable dresses, tunics, hats, and even fireworks to decorate the night sky. Vikings can also purchase from Hildir the components necessary to build a barbershop, where they can undergo a makeover worthy of Odin to update their look. But these features won’t just appear – only those accomplished enough to gather the necessary parts for Hildir’s Request across multiple biomes will reap the rewards.

What’s more, Valheim’s famously unforgiving nature will reach even greater heights. With the introduction of difficulty levels, players can choose to turn on easy, normal or hard mode at any time in their playthroughWhile normal mode will maintain Valheim’s current difficulty, hard mode will increase enemies’ HP and damage output. Equally, to improve accessibility, easy mode will cater to those previously deterred by Valheim’s perils in a lighter, more accommodating adventure ideal for the pacifists and builders.

Valheim is now available through Steam Early Access for $19.99.
