Design your dream rail network from the ground up. Scout the best route, lay down embankments, and build tracks, switches, turntables, bridges, and more! Then cross the vast, open landscape in 17 finely detailed locomotives and 9 wagons. Interact with regulators, valves, brakes, couplers, and many more features in first-person view as you drive your vehicles. But you won't simply be driving around aimlessly! Your task is to transport goods like timber, ore, coal, oil, and various other freight for a broad variety of industries. Earn money for every successful shipment and invest in new vehicles or upgrade and customize your existing locomotives. In a large and open game world, you build tracks, switches, and stations to create a network for industrial chains. More than 20 authentic locomotives are available for transporting different goods. These locomotives hail from the golden era of steam engines in the United States, spanning from the 1870s — when steam power was rapidly transforming transportation — through to the height of steam locomotive innovation in the early 1900s.

Among the collection are legendary models like the Montezuma, renowned Baldwin steam engines, the powerful Class 125, and the iconic "Betsy". Many of the steam locomotives featured in Railroads Online no longer exist or are only preserved in very rare cases. The development team uses specialist magazines, preserved documents, and surviving models in North American museums to recreate these locomotives as faithfully as possible in the game.

Just in time for the 3rd anniversary of the release of Railroads Online through Steam Early Access, the Anniversary Update is being released today. It includes one of the most requested features - an in-game chat for even better communication between players. Also included is a completely redesigned user interface. In addition, the new camera perspectives and loading options offer further assistance when loading and unloading goods.

As a thank you and appreciation for the support during the Early Access phase, all Early Access purchasers on Steam will receive the Pioneer Pack free of charge with the full release. This applies retroactively to all current Railroads Online owners.
