New sponsors are flooding in with gear while skaters from every corner of San Van storm the streets and battle for glory.
First up, check out an overview of what you can expect in Season 4 and beyond in our updated roadmap.
Since our last roadmap, we’ve made some big moves. Finger flips are officially coming to San Van in Season 4, landing right off the bat on June 2. Limited-time X Games Spot Battles will follow as part of our mid-season update. Proximity chat, underflips, and improved footplants are now in development, meaning we’re actively working on them but don’t have an ETA on when they’ll land. Our matchmaking system hit a bump in the road, so we’ve moved it back into the “On the Radar” section while we work out the kinks. We’ve also started jamming on ideas for Character Improvements and Improved No Complies.
We'll share more details later in the season as we continue working - let’s focus on what’s coming to San Van throughout Season 4.

Season 4 Deep Dive
Check out below for a deep dive into what’s ready to rock on Day 1 - and what will be dropping later in the season.
Lighting Update
First up, summer has officially kicked off in San Van, and the world team has reworked the lighting to match. Here’s what our Sr. Lighting Director had to say about the changes:
Since we launched skate. Early Access, we’ve kept San Van at a steady time of day throughout Seasons 1-3: partly for consistent look and feel, partly for technical reasons behind the scenes. For Season 4, we wanted to shake that up a bit and lean into the summer vibe, so we’ve shifted to an early afternoon, high-sun feel. That “perfect California summer” atmosphere. No better time to skate!
How would you describe the Season 3 lighting?
We wanted to find a more ownable look for Seasons 2 and 3, so we moved toward later-afternoon lighting, leaning a bit more toward the golden hour. You know, the sun isn't quite that low in the sky, but we wanted it to feel kind of warm and inviting, like that nice, warm, sunny, hazy afternoon.
How would you describe the shift from Season 2/3 to Season 4, and the intention behind it?
From Season 2 and 3 to 4, this was a good time to introduce a time-of-day change to San Van, because we had already done a significant time-of-day change in Grom before that, from sunset to nighttime. So, we're like, okay, we need to bring in a bit more variation and move it slightly more toward high noon, maybe pre-noon. So the sun moved across the sky, shifting the angle of all the downtown shadows, kind of freshening the city's vibe and giving old spots a new perspective. Some areas that used to be in direct sun are now in shadow, and vice versa.
What visual signatures define the Season 4 lighting update?
For this change, we wanted more vibrant, clearer skies, a noon-time with a different sun angle, and a heavier vignette as the other main component. So if you look at a side-by-side of Season 2 and 3 compared to Season 4, the vignette is much stronger.
Why bring in a stronger vignette?
A strong vignette really centers your attention on the center of the screen, where your skater is. It gives a nice fall-off to the periphery of the frame.
Anything you can tease about Season 5 and beyond?
There are exciting things on the horizon, and we're constantly expanding our lighting repertoire.
Visual Refresh
As always, the city’s getting a visual refresh for the new season. You’ll notice updated paint, art, and environmental touches around Rolling Waves, the Block Party, the Amphitheater, and other skateable spots across San Van. Plus, we’re adding to the city’s lived-in feel with another grime-and-surfacing pass.

Updated Rolling Waves
Updated Block Party
Updated Stage
And, to give you even more ways to get creative and show your style in San Van, we’re adding 95 clothing, footwear and accessory options (shirts, shoes, headwear, eyewear, and more), 108 skateboard options (including decks, wheels, trucks, stickers), 3 new gestures, 39 tattoos, 58 Player Card options (backgrounds, avatars, and titles), and 22 Quick Drop items to get creative with in San Van.
The Stadium
Lucre Financial Stadium, aka “The Chum Bucket” is the epicenter of Season 4. From the kickoff of the San Van Open to the X Games San Van event, closing out the summer, this place is built to shred. Expect endless opportunities to blast huge airs, stomp insane tricks, and crush the contest layouts that await inside.

As an added benefit to their pass, Season 4 skate.Premium Pass holders can access The Stadium early, from June 2 until July 7, 2026. From July 7 to July 21, those without skate.Premium can grab a 24-hour day pass to the Stadium for 250 Rip Chips (earnable through completing Challenges and Tasks). To cap things off, there will be open access to the Stadium from July 21 to Aug 25 for a very special X Games San Van event, requiring no skate.Premium Pass or Rip Chips. Unlimited access to Isle of Grom for Season 4 is also a benefit of the skate.Premium Pass, or you can get a 24-hour San Van Water Taxi Day Pass for 500 Rip Chips.

New Community Park
The Stadium isn’t the only new zone dropping in Season 4. The locals decided to sunset Hedgemont Park and build something new nearby. Hedgemont’s new Community Park is floating in with a completely fresh design built to keep sessions flowing.
The original Hedgemont Community Park is goneski! We’ll see what the city plans for the space in a later season, so stay tuned.
Welcome to Hedgemont’s new Community Park!
The Community parks are getting an overhaul, as shared by our World Design Director:
Since Season 1, we’ve heard the community feedback, so the community lots are more focused on the skatepark experience first. Some are designed around bowls and vert, and others are built more like real-life plazas, whether fictional or inspired by actual spots. We are listening to the feedback, so we are interested in hearing what other types of parks the players want to see moving forward.
New Features and Improvements
Coming Mid-Season - Friend Code System aka. Skater Codes
Skating with friends is always more fun (especially if you turn on party collision), but getting together can be easier. So that’s what we’ve done. Coming mid-season, we’re introducing Skater Codes.
These are six-digit unique identifiers that you can give to someone to find you without having to search your Steam, EA, Xbox, or PS username. We’ll have details on how it works, how to find yours, how to share, and more as we get closer to mid-season.
New Mode
Coming Mid-Season - Limited time event: X Games Spot Battles
We know you’ve been itching for more competition in skate., so we’re bringing back a popular mode to scratch that itch: X Games Spot Battles.
Spot Battle is an updated legacy mode: a turn-based Throwdown experience where every trick matters and the pressure is sky-high. Launching mid-season with update 0.31.5 on July 21, the first version arrives with X Games Spot Battles: a form of persistent Throwdown that lasts for the duration of the event.
Spot Battles go down over 3 intense rounds. You throw your run, then spectate the competition while plotting your next move. But don’t zone out - every skater’s line could change your strategy. You’ll need to stack the highest-scoring sequence possible in a limited area and within the clock. And there are zero rebates. If you bail, your run is DONE for that round.
After all 3 rounds wrap, players are ranked based on their best overall trick sequence, while daily top scores blast near each throwdown location. There are 6 total, so if you want your name on each, you need to top each throwdown around town. These are leaderboards for your specific server, NOT across the global population.
We’ll drop the full details on X Games Spot Battles closer to mid-season. Until then, start visualizing your runs!
