Hell is an experiment you can't survive in Outlast, a first-person survival horror game series developed by veterans of some of the biggest game franchises in history. Critically acclaimed for its immersive atmosphere, sound design and full-frontal scares, the series soon became the leading horror game experience of its generation. The rules of the Outlast universe are simple – run, hide or die trying.
Outlast, the original release, begins with an intriguing anonymous tip that leads you to explore the dark heart of Mount Massive Asylum, home to the secret experiments of the Murkoff Corporation. Whistleblower, the DLC continuation, tells the backstory to the atrocities found in Outlast and stretches past the events of the first game to show the final bloody chapter in Mount Massive Asylum's story. Outlast 2 places you deep in the wilderness where you discover the residents of Temple Gate and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.
While not a direct sequel to the other critically acclaimed Outlast titles in the series, The Outlast Trials will be set in the same thrilling universe: more precisely, right in the middle of the Cold War era where players take on the role of test subjects abducted by the shadowy Murkoff Corporation.
A prison riot in progress? Not under his eyes. In The Outlast Trials’ Project Boneyard, Reagents are thrown into a brutal new Trial environment as Sergeant Leland Coyle returns to bring order, punishment, and profit back to Sinyala Facility’s population. Come July 14, players will face a new Trial, two fresh MK-Challenges, major updates to Escalation and Invasion, new customization features, and “The Biter”, a new Ex-Pop enemy stalking the Prison Farm.
In Project Boneyard, Reagents are sent into Murkoff’s latest correctional nightmare, where authority is currency, punishment is policy, and freedom is the indefinable promise that keeps prisoners at the grindstone. At the center of it all stands Sergeant Coyle, returning in a prominent new role for the season’s new Trial, Locksock the Warden.
NEW ENVIRONMENT: PRISON FARM
The American prison is a meat grinder, taking in sociopaths and criminals and extruding functioning members of society. But strict routine, severe conditioning, and close quarters create a crucible for power dynamics built on violence, contraband, and flesh.
Turn yourself in and suffer rehabilitation.
NEW TRIAL: LOCKSOCK THE WARDEN
You are freedom. The indefinable promise that keeps prisoners at the grindstone that turns authority to profit and back again. Don't let false authority stand in the way of real capital.
Kill the Warden, and we will let you out.
NEW MK-CHALLENGE: BRIBE THE JUDGES
You are the master, whose property is the purpose of the law. Salary reminds enforcement that their monopoly of violence only exists for your monopoly of capital. Collect the bribes, pay the judges, and we will let you out.
NEW MK: CANCEL THE BROADCAST
You are the butcher, who reminds the sheep the ultimate path of all flesh, no matter the bounty of wealth or the wealth of spirit. Sabotage the broadcast, defile the faithful with blood, and we will let you out.
NEW EX-POP: THE BITER
Project Boneyard introduces The Biter, a new Ex-Pop enemy stalking the Prison Farm.
Arms removed to prevent further self-harm, Biters are universal sadists, still capable of grievous harm with their mechanically enforced jaws. Though Biters are kept chained by the neck for safety, Reagents should approach with caution, as their augmented legs gift them with unexpected velocity.

NEW FEATURES AND MAJOR MODE REWORKS

Season 7 will introduce Rig Customization, Knife Customization, Loadout Presets, and Mastery Tasks, giving Reagents new ways to prepare for therapy and personalize their approach before entering the Trials.
The update will also bring major reworks to both Escalation and Invasion, with significant changes designed to improve the flow, structure, and overall player experience of both modes.
More details on these features, and the full contents of Project Boneyard, will be revealed closer to launch.
Season 7: Project Boneyard launches July 14 on all platforms, free for current owners of The Outlast Trials.
Imprisoned in a secret Murkoff facility, players will be thrust into a series of physical and mental ordeals, tormented by iconic characters, and challenged alone or in teams to survive with their sanity intact. The Outlast Trials will allow players to face the horrors of the trials by themselves or cooperate with up to three other test subjects. After all, it's always better to shit your pants with some friends!
