This tale of Crystals features a strategic turn-based battle system with a modern twist, the return of chocobos, espers and airships, in addition to appearances from beloved Final Fantasy characters such as Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light – all presented in stunning, retro-inspired HD-2D graphics that push the limits of pixel art.
Final Fantasy Resonance is based on the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Far from just a direct port, it has been refined and extensively rebuilt as a full-fledged console-quality RPG experience.
Building on the concept of pushing the limits of pixel art, Final Fantasy Resonance presents a tale of crystals brought to life in high-definition pixel art in the HD-2D style, alongside a gameplay system that captures the classic charm of Final Fantasy, complemented by a beautiful soundtrack.
Final Fantasy Resonance combines classic FF tropes like chocobos and airships with the newest evolutions in turn-based battles and job systems, creating one gorgeously pixelated HD-2D package—a series first.
The World
The Zoldaad Empire
A powerful military nation and the home of the Fire Crystal. According to rumors, Zoldaadplans to use the airships and magitek weaponry they’ve mass-produced in recent years to invade neighboring countries. Life is hard under the tyranny of the empire, and domestic unrest mounts, giving rise to a rebel army.
Mysidia, the Magiapolis
The legendary city of mages known only in fairy tales. Some believe it fell to ruin long ago, while others claim it persists to this day. None, however, can say for certain. The advanced magical civilization of Mysidiais also said to play host to the Ice Crystal.
Main Characters
- Jake (Voiced by: Jonah Scott / Yoshimasa Hosoya) - The leader of the rebel army opposing the ZoldaadEmpire. Though Jake comes off as breezy and easily distracted by the fairer sex, within his chest is a heart that beats fervently for his countrymen, and he will do whatever it takes to end their suffering under the empire’s boot. In battle, Jake makes Lady Luck his ally, fighting with chancy abilities such as Coin Toss and Gamble Shot.
- Sakura (Voiced by: AmaLee / Aoi Yuki) - A sage of Mysidia, the magiapolis. Though Sakura appears to be a young girl, her true age is unknown. As she speaks in a manner that suggests an ancient soul, many believe her to be far older than she seems... Sakura possesses an immense magical prowess that places her a cut above other mages. Her true origins and identity, however, are a mystery.
- Veritas of the Flame (Voiced by: Paul St. Peter / Kenta Miyake) - One of the Sworn Six who seek to annihilate the crystals. Never one to split hairs, he takes everything in fittingly giant stride. In addition to being nigh impervious, even a single fiery swing of his axe can lay his foes low.
- Veritas of the Earth (Voiced by: Kieran Flitton / Yuichi Nakamura) - One of the Sworn Six. His unique sense of honor makes him crave battle with those stronger than him, even when his mission dictates otherwise. He wields a gargantuan shield and Earth magic.
- Veritas of the Light (Voiced by: Morgan Berry / Yoshino Nanjo) - One of the Sworn Six who seek to annihilate the crystals. Capricious and volatile in nature, she can fly into a rage at a moment's notice and will employ any means necessary to accomplish her objective. She unleashes devastating Light attacks and fires devastating salvos at her enemies using the cannons fused to her gauntlets.
Gameplay System
- Limit Bursts - Characters can unleash powerful attacks known as Limit Bursts after filling up their limit gauge. Limit gauges fill when a character staggers an enemy or takes damage. Some Limit Bursts pack an incredible punch, while others grant boons that aid in the battle.
- Visions - Crystallized essences of legendary heroes, including warriors from other Final Fantasy realms, who fight alongside Rain and his companions when their vision crystals are equipped. You may use the magic and abilities of visions who fight alongside you. The stronger your bond with a vision grows, the more abilities of theirs you can unlock. Staggering all enemies in one turn will allow you to trigger a Resonance with a vision and perform an exceptionally devastating attack. To obtain vision crystals, visit the Sanctums of Light that have been erected around the world.
- Awakening Visions - Along your journey, you will come across magicite, which can be used to awaken your visions. Awakening grants a vision stronger abilities, as well as higher-level skills and magic. But keep in mind that magicite is limited—which visions to awaken is a choice you must make. Visions awaken in three stages, requiring higher-grade magiciteto draw out greater power. Magiciteis found in dungeons, lying within treasure chests or as a reward for defeating certain powerful monsters.
