You've Got A Great Big Dollar Sign There Where Most Women Have A Heart

by Rainier on April 26, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

Such a beautiful day it was yesterday, amazing. We watched some TV after breakfast, did some errands, checked out a new promising property but decided not to pursue any further due to the crime-ridden neighborhood, and then did some catch-up work. It was less than we had hoped for, but it was such a nice day that it couldn't be helped.

No movies at all, but we did get to watch The Amazing Race and might snag Date Night sometime this week at the small theater just down the street.

We're Dead! We're Dead! We Survived But We're Dead!

Why is it such good weather when we have work to do? Catching up when it's bright, warm and sunny outside is not good for productivity. We need rain, cold, gloomy dark weather, stat!

We were debating about going to see Date Night or The Losers, but it's just too nice to be cooped up in a big room with a few hundred sweaty people, so we're going to do some work, go out, and then come back for some more work.

Last night, we watched All About Steve, a few episodes of Flashforward and Bones. It's kind of sad that Flashforward is not having the success is should. The initial ratings were superb, but after a lengthy delay between the first few episodes and its "spring debut," momentum was lost, and now it's on the verge of being canceled. For shame!

You Rush A Miracle Man, You Get Rotten Miracles

No rest for the wicked. With the flaky coverage from earlier this week, we'll be doing a little bit of catching up over the weekend.

No special plans for the weekend. Maybe we'll go catch a movie if there's anything interesting playing, but if not, there's always the DVR. We kicked off the weekend in style with some awesome Greek food, which we devoured in front of the TV while watching Stargate Universe and Supernatural. On deck are Flashforward, Bones and maybe a little V.

There's Too Many Of Them, I Can't Kill The World

There are plenty of press junkets going on these days: earlier this week, last night, and a few things next week, including a trip to Las Vegas to check out UFC Undisputed 2010. Then, of course, there will be the run-up to E3 with a slew of pre-E3 events during the weeks prior to kick-off.

Last night, we watched Supernatural and the latest episode of The Pacific, which was thankfully action-packed from start to finish.

Halfway through the week, and unsurprisingly, i'm looking forward to the weekend. I need some downtime after last week's vacation. Odd how that works :)

We attended a PSP event last night and got to play a few upcoming games (Modnation Racers, Hot Shots Golf and a few others), so we'll have some impressions and interviews later today and later in the week.

Some Things Are Hard To Follow, And I'm Not Talking About The Fish

Apologies for the anemic updates yesterday. For some reason, I came down with a massive headache that only dissipated this morning after some serious sleep time. I'm one of those people who doesn't like taking medicine for petty things like that, so I roughed it.

People interested in seeing some pics from our Mt. Rainier trip, check them out. And no, we didn't include the photos from us rolling down the hill with our snowshoes on. ;P

Accept Me As I Am, Only Then Can We Discover Each Other

The first day back to work after a little vacation is always tough. Getting back into the swing of things takes a little effort, and I'd rather be hiking up Mt. Rainier. I'll be putting up some photos later on so you can enjoy some of the views we got to experience.

On another positive note, the CrimeCraft update was released yesterday, and so far, the new patch and content are being well received. Unfortunately, the nightclub feature did not make it into the new patch, although no reason has been given for its omission. The rest is good, though, and from the looks of it, the game population is on the rise. Hurray!

There's No Right, There's No Wrong, There's Only Popular Opinion

Ahh, it's good to be home again, sleep in our own bed and drive our own car. Always love leaving for vacation, but equally enjoy getting back to our own place.

Apart from a little scare when the check-in terminal and the customer service desk couldn't find my reservation for the flight, the traveling went without a hitch.

We came back just in time, too, because our DVR was 79% filled with recordings. Luckily, quite a few were repeats and double recordings, but once we plopped ourselves on the couch and watched NCIS, Stargate Universe and Human Target, we're back to about 50%.

There's No Money, There's No Weed. It's All Been Replaced By A Pile Of Corpses

Yesterday was an awesome day! It started out cloudy but dry, with the forecast being that it would be clear all day. Unfortunately, the closer we got to got to Mt. Rainier, the worse the weather became, and it looked like the weather was going to ruin our plans as it was pouring down pretty hard. Once we arrived at our hiking point, the rain stopped and we were good to go. We got our snowshoes on, got into the thick of it, and marveled at the beautiful scenery. Although it was quite cloudy, it wasn't as cold as we had anticipated, and the vistas were amazing.

Later today, we are flying back to home base and plopping ourselves on the couch. We've had enough exercise to last us for a few weeks, and our DVR will be full of goodies for us to watch!

Truth Be Told, If You're Looking For The Guilty You Need Only Look Into A Mirror

Our little trip is nearing an end, as we are heading back home tomorrow. Today is the reason for the vacation in the first place, conquering the largest mountain in the contiguous (fancy word for mainland) US, and it so happens to be called Mt. Rainier. The weather will determine how far we get, but based on the view from our hotel room, it's looking promising.

Earlier this week, the first E3 appointment requests came in, so there's no escaping it anymore. In a few months, we're heading out to Los Angeles for an entire week of gaming mayhem.

An Eye For An Eye Only Ends Up Making The Whole World Blind

Yesterday, Bungie revealed some of the new multiplayer modes in the upcoming Halo: Reach, and the new names sounded eerily familiar. We already know by now that I'm an avid CrimeCraft player, and oddly enough, three of the new names are modes in CC. Headhunter has you collecting loot from AI-driven enemies; Stockpile is a resources gathering mode where AI bots are protecting loot boxes; and Generator Defense is similar to safeguard in CrimeCraft, where you protect an objective from waves of enemies that are trying to blow it up. I'm sure the Bungie people have never even heard of CrimeCraft, but this is quite a coincidence.

On a much sadder note, Type O Negative singer Peter Steele, 46, passed away yesterday from a heart condition. At 6'7'', the frontman was not only an imposing figure, but he also had a unique low heavy voice and was quite the gothic rock sensation in the late '90s. In his honor, I shall now play "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend."

How Do They Expect You To Get Uncrazy If You're Asleep All The Time?

We have arrived safely at our destination! It's a little bit colder than we would have liked, but we'll make do. Tomorrow, we are going to start our sightseeing, and this weekend we're even going to do some mountain climbing! OK, maybe it's more hiking than climbing, but still ....

Since the laptop isn't exactly equipped for gaming, there will be no Crimecraft for me. :( I have checked out Rockstar's Facebook app, Red Dead Redemption: Gunslingers, which is kinda cool to tide you over until the actual game comes out.

The latest news is that Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is not only directing but also re-writing The Avengers — you know, that movie with Nick Fury, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America. I'm so looking forward to it already!

It Isn't Stealing If No One Wants It

My hearing from yesterday's Faith No More concert is almost back to normal. Thank goodness! I slept like a brick yesterday; two hours in the mosh pit definitely took its toll.

Tomorrow, the WP HQ will be running on a little bit of a different schedule. We're taking a little vacation break for the rest of the week, but the trusty laptop has already been packed so we will be staying on top of things either way.

Just finished watching the latest episode of The Pacific, and it still does not have the magic as Band of Brothers, no matter how acclaimed the series might be. We're halfway through the series, and so far, only one character has any depth, but there's still not much of a connection.

I Dunno What The Hell's In There, But It's Weird And Pissed Off

We just got back from the Faith No More concert, two hours of awesomeness! The opening acts were disastrous, some of the worst, incomprehensible, terrible stuff I have ever seen. But all was forgotten as soon as FNM took the stage for the next couple of hours. Live rock concerts usually have issues with sounding too muddled or loud, but this time around, the sound was incredibly good.

I was in the mosh pit from start to finish, so not only am I partly deaf for the next few days, but I'm also worn out, and my neck hurts. Guess I'm not as young and resilient as I used to be ....

I Always Tell The Truth, Even When I Lie

The festivities are over. I feel like I gained a few pounds, so it's time to tighten the belt and work off all the food we ate over the weekend.

Tonight, we have a Faith No More concert, so that should be quite exciting! Haven't seen them in a long time, especially since they broke up in 1998, so when we heard about the reunion and them coming to town, we simply HAD to get tickets. We got a little bit lucky, as initially there was only one show planned, which sold out instantly, but two additional show dates were added and we managed to snag some tickets.

Many Bothans Died To Bring Us This Information

Part one of our eat-fest has been successfully completed. We went to a restaurant we hadn't been to in about eight years, and it was quite good. We weren't planning on being out as long as we did, so we did not get around to catching up on our DVR recordings for the week. It's up to 49% full, so we had better make a dent later on.

As we have a birthday today, it will start with a homemade breakfast, maybe a movie, some TV series, and dinner. Busy busy ....

Don't Mess With Me, Pork Chop

The Konami Gamers Day on Thursday was interesting. There was a sneak peek of the new Silent Hill game, which was nothing more than a teaser that promised more detail would come at E3. Guess we'll have to wait until then. We did, however, get to sit down with the Castlevania people and managed to get an interesting interview, so keep an eye out for that sometime next week.

This weekend will be spent eating and watching TV, two of our favorite pastimes. Today we have a late lunch/early dinner engagement with some friends/co-workers we haven't seen in a long time, and on Sunday, we have a birthday celebration, so more eating is involved. Luckily, neither occasion involves us strapping on the apron, so we're quite happy about that.

I'd Rather Spit In Your Face. But As I Haven't Got Any Spit...

Well that was not part of the plan. Sometime last night, I got sleepy, dozed off in my office chair in the middle of updates and what was supposed to be a quick nap ended up being an all-night snooze fest.

So, now that I'm all chipper, I'll get right to it ....

With Enough Courage, You Can Do Without A Reputation

by Rainier on April 7, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

The more I read and see about Red Dead Redemption, the more I am looking forward to it and secretly hoping that, like every other Rockstar game, it is coming to the PC. You hear me, guys?!

There's been a little bit of frustration in the world of CrimeCraft. A new content patch is expected this month, but in tinkering with server performance, a nasty memory bug has snuck in somewhere, and over the past week or two, the game has been going belly up three to four times a day, peaking in yesterday's daily tournament, where yours truly was in the finale, but alas, mere seconds into the final shootout, the server crapped out again.

Pain Can Be Controlled - You Just Disconnect It

by Rainier on April 6, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

It was a little bit of a quiet day yesterday, with Europe mainly still in Easter holiday mode, but that should be changing again today, as of right ... now!

We've been making good headway on catching up on DVR stuff, as we watched Flashforward, 24 and Human Target. Yesterday we also checked out the latest ep. of The Pacific, and while it is not bad by a long shot, it is not nearly as good as Band of Brothers. It seems to be lacking the intensity as well as the character depth as BoB. So far, there seems to be no chemistry between any of the characters like Maj. Richard D. Winters and Capt. Lewis Nixon, for starters. We're not even halfway through the series, so hopefully the pacing picks up.
