Goodbye Holiday Weekend, It Was Nice Knowing Ya

by Rainier on Sept. 8, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

Stayed up late, slept in late, did some work, cleaned up the place after the in-laws left, ate, watched "Jersey Girl" (only because it's a Kevin Smith movie) and it was surprisingly decent, especially since J-Lo dies in the beginning of the movie.

Shortly after the in-laws left, we got a call from a friend who needs to go to work in the area first thing tomorrow morning, and she asked if she could crash at our place. So much for having the place to ourselves! It's starting to sound like we run a bed-and-breakfast!

Sounds like our neighbor is having a party. There's lots of yelling, laughing, hooting and hollering going on. Maybe I should pop in and join the festivities. :)

Visiting A Museum, Watching Cartoons? Where's the Real Me!?

by Rainier on Sept. 6, 2009 @ 11:54 p.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

So the visit to the Asian Art Museum to see the Samurai exhibit was actually quite cool: lots of armor, swords and lore to read up on. Unfortunately, my wife and the other people we were with wanted to take the opportunity to visit the rest of the museum while we were there .... Couldn't care less who ate what out of which white pot or whatever that weird bento box means. *yawn*

Went to a Burmese restaurant afterwards. Never tasted that cuisine, and I must say it was quite good.

Then back to the homested for — you guessed it — some CrimeCraft and watching Green Lantern: First Flight, a cool new cartoon released ealier this year.

Ahh Holiday Weekend, How I Love You

by Rainier on Sept. 6, 2009 @ 3:49 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

Here in North America, we are celebrating Labor Day weekend, so we have an extra day off on Monday. Woohoo! The in-laws are visiting (no comment), and tomorrow we are going to the museum to check on some Samurai exhibit. Could be interesting.

Apart from the galavanting around, this gives me the opportunity to work a little bit on the site, but mainly catch up on some CrimeCraft. I finally managed to save enough loot to acquire our gang's hideout, which we can further pimp out with a bank, vendor, mailbox or spiffy up with a new interior. Ugh, must save more loot ...

Hope everybody is having a good weekend. Enjoy!

What Day Is It Again ? Yesterday or Tomorrow ?

by Rainier on Sept. 4, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

I'm sure we've all had these a few times before, a week when you just couldn't get the day right, where you think it's the next day (or a day early) already and it throws off your entire week.

Terribly annoying ....

Hopefully, the extended weekend will put me back on the right track.

Out house guest leaves tomorrow morning, only to be replaced by the in-laws in the afternoon ... joy joy :)

Had my mind set on watching "Leverage" and "Dark Blue," but the day went by too quickly, and next thing I know I've got a house full of people to entertain. Such hardship! :)

Hello Internet, Happy 40th Birthday

by Rainier on Sept. 3, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

In case you didn't know, yesterday the Internet celebrated its 40th birthday. The first two ARPAnet computers connected at UCLA on Sept. 2, 1969, while the first message transmitted between network nodes from UCLA to Stanford University happened on Oct. 29, 1969.

Thanks UCLA. We wouldn't be here without you ....

So what's going on with Microsoft? No Ninety-Nine Nights II, no more Scene It? exclusive ...

No time for TV watching tonight. Worked late, went for a run, made dinner and then it was time to get back to work, but have no fear: The DVR is filled with goodies for tomorrow.

Evil Doesn't Sleep, Why Should You?

by Rainier on Sept. 2, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

Not that the title is of any great importance, but it's based on a sticker I have hanging on top of my monitor, and since I apparently don't sleep much, certain people thought it was appropriate to have it there.

If you haven't checked out the new GTA: Ballad of Tony Gay yet, be sure to do so.  It's pretty cool (and I'm not even a fan).

Just watched the newest "Weeds," and while I'm glad that the crazy drama from last season seems to have subsided, this episode's ending sure was a surprise. Good stuff.

"Raising the Bar" had its season finale last week, so I guess I'll be able to spend more time in CrimeCraft. I'm a gunsmith so my gang is counting on me to craft them some good weapons, but leveling up your character and your profession takes a while.

Where's that 4-Slot SR, damnit ...

The Day That I Forgot, and It Won't be the Last

by Rainier on Sept. 1, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

OK, so I still have to get used to putting a new MOTD in the queue, so by the time I realized that I'd forgotten, a few hours had already passed.

There is nothing earth-shattering to report. We keep on making little adjustments to the site (such as the RSS feed), checking on old articles to make sure everything works (and boy, is that a Herculean job!).

Had beefy noodles for dinner (Vietnamese dish Bun Bo Nuong), watched "Entourage" (good episode), did a bit of crafting in CrimeCraft (damn gang members are catching up with me) and then back to work. Luckily, we seem to have sturdy walls so I can keep the music blaring throughout the night to keep me awake ... sort of. :)

Welcome to the New WorthPlaying - Part 2

by Rainier on Aug. 31, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

Well, we've managed to live through the first day of the new site. There were, and still are, quite a few little odds and ends that need fixing, but they are being addressed.

Once we've made sure that the entire archive of articles is in working order, our first new addition will be adding an integrated forum/comments section, which had been broken on the old WP for, ehh ... quite a while.

Apart from that, the weekend was great, Friday and Saturday was smoking hot, 95 degrees (35 celsius for the Euros), but luckily it cooled off on Sunday. Watched the final episodes of "The Jury" (British miniseries) and made a delicious pot roast. Unfortunately, the new site cut into my plans of playing CrimeCraft all weekend, but there's always tomorrow!

Welcome to the New WorthPlaying - Part 1

by Rainier on Aug. 30, 2009 @ 1:05 a.m. PDT | Filed under MOTD

When you see this, it means that you've hit the new WorthPlaying. After many years in the works, it has finally arrived. Longtime readers may have read about or heard us promising this for a quite a while. It has taken three different developers and two complete re-writes, but the day has finally arrived.

We're very relieved, exhausted, happy and giddy that we've finally arrived at this point.

I also want to point out that this is only the first step. While we've already added a few things, there are many more features that are going to be added in the coming weeks.

Special thanks go out to Ricky for making this all possible, Judy for putting up with my constant changes and long days & nights, Michael for being patient and all of our loyal staffers who have stuck with us over the years.
