Emergent Signs GameBryo License Agreements With 18 Studios

Emergent Game Technologies has finalized deals with 18 studios around the world, including Tencent, 3D Chat, Sidhe and Straylight Studios, looking to build titles using its Gamebryo middleware development suite, revealing there are currently 150 titles in the works using its engine.

Founded in 2000 by brothers Darren and Jason Falcus and previously involved with Acclaim Studios, APE developed over 30 titles for various platforms and publishers, such as Taito Legends, Miami Vice, Jackie Chan Adventures, Aero the Acro-Bat, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown, and Mega Man Anniversary Collection.

'NHL 10' Not Coming to PC or PS2

While EA has yet to officially announce the next installment in its hockey franchise, there won't be a PC or PS2 edition of NHL 10, according to the Hockey Downloads forum. Citing "economic reasons," EA's Ryan Nicholas revealed that it wasn't worth putting manpower into those versions. PC sales aren't high enough to create a significant profit for the company, and those development teams have instead been reassigned to work on the X360/PS3 versions.

'Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2' (PS3) Confirmed

Last month, Tecmo teased that it would be making a major announcement at GDC, and while that is still the case, the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu revealed that Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PS3 is in development, which is now confirmed by Tecmo itself. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is an improved version of the X360's Ninja Gaiden II, featuring a new playable character (Ayane), new boss fights and weapon, currently scheduled for release fall 2009 in Japan/North America, followed by Europe.

Windstorm Studios Formed, Another Ensemble Studios Spin-off

Former Ensemble Studios programmer Dusty Monk has launched Windstorm Studios. No formal announcement has been made yet, but it was revealed that the independent studio is working on a new MMO. A big fan of titles such as Ultima Online, EverQuest, and World of Warcraft, Monk wants to create an MMO that breaks the mold of depressing postapocalyptic titles with gray streets beneath gray skies, killing gray zombies, and hints at a game with cities of glass and steel, and most importantly, flying cars. Previously, Monk has worked on such titles as Age of Empires, Halo Wars, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing and the canceled Halo MMO.
