Metro3D, Inc. today announced a new colossal title to its 2003 line- up, Dinosaur Hunting exclusively for the Xbox. Developed by Microsoft Game Studios Japan, Dinosaur Hunting is scheduled for release this November 7, 2003. “Dinosaur Hunting is a giant-size action adventure, which brings pre-historic dinosaurs into the 21st Century,” said Joseph Morici, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Metro3D. “Mixing reality with a bit of fantasy, Dinosaur Hunting is a solid action adventure title sure to be popular this upcoming holiday season.”

Midway Games announced today that Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance has shipped as a Greatest Hits title for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system and a Platinum Hits title for the Xbox video game system from Microsoft. A Player's Choice title for the Nintendo GameCube will be available on October 27.

Ubisoft revealed plans today to expand its line of flight Sims through a partnership with 1C: Maddox Games. The publishing deal includes the announcement of The Battle of Britain, a brand new World War II flight simulation game, which is expected to build on the enormous success of the IL-2 Sturmovik franchise. Ubisoft also plans to publish an expansion pack for IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles that will let owners of Forgotten Battles take to the skies again, to engage in more World War II dogfights alone or with players around the world via the internet.

As typical with any new game platform launch, gamers across North America created and took part in activities in celebration of the N-Gage mobile game deck's October 7 on-sale date. Flash mobs were seen yesterday in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, and a mysterious N-Gage crop circle was discovered in Minnesota. HL Rally.net released some new screens (also available below) "a remodelled Subaru Impreza, a brand new Skoda Fabia, a stylish new look for the Lancer Evolution".. Half-Life Rally is a racing modification for the highly acclaimed and everlastingly popular game, Half-Life by Valve Software. Unlike most mods currently being made for the Half-Life Engine, the goal of HL-Rally is not to blast your enemy to smitherines with relentless repetition prone to excessive cheating and hacks, but to race cars and be the first and fastest across the finish line, out-running your opponents in any way possible to gain a few milliseconds on them.

Shacknews got some more details on the recent Half-Life 2 source leak from Gabe Newell (thanks Blues). Here is a clip:

1) We've taken our network connection down to pretty much a minimum. We're still finding machines internally that have been compromised.

2) The suite of tools that the attacker was using included the modified version of RemotelyAnywhere (basically a Remote Desktop-style remote admin tool), Haxker Defender (a process, registry key and file hiding tool), the key logger, and various networking utilities that allowed them to transfer files (compressors, NetCat, and FTP). We also are pretty sure they were sniffing our network to gather passwords and other information. Haxker Defender includes a file system driver that allows an attacker to have stuff on your machine that is invisible, unless you do something like mount the drive under another OS that has NTFS support.

We have determined one way of detecting some infected machines, which is using a connection viewer to detect connections to anomalous hosts external to our network.

We still don't know their entry method.

Forgotten Hope Beta 0.5 is about 50% complete and features a huge number of planes, tanks and battleships - not only beautifully modelled, but also simulated in a very realistic way. To top it all off there is a choice of new maps as well.
