Through their development joint venture, NiCE and The Bitmap Brothers are exploring new genres for MMOG entertainment as well as creating online versions of existing titles including Chaos Engine and Frontline Command.

As a flagship launch-title, the original Destruction Derby was a powerful demonstration of PlayStation gaming values. Liberating, cathartic and (for its time!) brutally realistic, it freed gamers from the restrictions associated with traditional driving games. Subsequent sequels performed well and added numerous features; total Destruction Derby sales now total 3 million +!! However, by the third incarnation it became clear that the limitations of the PSX were restricting the improvement of the franchise's basic game proposition.

'Termite Games' Pulled Under Project3 Umbrella

Dutch publisher Project Three Interactive today announced that its development studio Termite Games has changed its name to Project Three Interactive Studios AB and is now fully integrated in the Project Three Group. The Swedish outfit became known for its revolutionary new game-engine known as DVA, which was used for the development of the tactical FPS game “NEW WORLD ORDER” for PC, released during winter 2002/spring 2003. Termite kept updating the game and has concluded its work by delivering the very stable and smooth version 1.42 last month (on sale in the UK, France and Germany by the end of August ­ distributed by Bigben Interactive).

THQ Release Schedule Update

THQ today announced changes to its product release schedule. The company's action-adventure title, "Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy," for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system is now expected to ship in North America on November 10, 2003. The title had previously been scheduled to launch in late September. The company also announced plans to publish Sphinx for the Xbox video game system from Microsoft in North America concurrent with the November PlayStation 2 and GameCube launch...

In addition, "Warhammer 40,000: Firewarrior," the first online first person shooter for PlayStation 2, will be released on schedule in Europe during the September quarter. However, the PlayStation 2 version is now expected to ship in North America during the third fiscal quarter. The PC versions are also now scheduled to ship in North America and Europe during the third fiscal quarter.

The 2nd Annual EA SPORTS Madden Challenge, a nationwide 32-city tournament to decide the best player of the world’s top-selling football video game starts Saturday, August 23 in Chicago, Il. The champion from each city will proceed to compete for the prestigious title of Madden Challenge Champion on Madden NFL 2004, which just shipped last week. The stakes this year have been raised with a $50,000 grand prize being awarded to the overall 2003 Madden Challenge Champion.
