Microsoft announced that both the Xbox Live service and Xbox.com will be offline and unavailable starting at midnight Pacific Time on Tuesday October 17, 2006. The downtime is needed to add new features and other cool stuff to the Xbox Live service. According to News.com, Intel is facing a lawsuit filed by once upon a time chip maker Transmeta, claiming Intel is using patented technology in its Pentium, and most recent Core 2 Duo processors. Transmeta had a new line of Crusoe CPUs in 2000 that used specific power efficiency methods, and although the chips never sold well, Intel seems to have been more than inspired by the technology. Transmeta confirmed AMD licenses some of its technology, and it currently has no plans for other lawsuits.
