Macrovision announced an agreement to digitally distribute a catalog of Activision's PC games on Macrovision's games network, starting with Call of Duty, CoD: United Offensive, CoD 2, Gun, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, The Movies, and additional PC games...

According to industry research firm, Gartner Inc., worldwide broadband penetration will reach up to 364 million households by 2010. With the increase in the availability of high-speed Internet access, the popularity of downloading and purchasing games online has gained the attention of core game publishers. Online game distribution represents an increased revenue opportunity for game publishers beyond the traditional physical distribution channels because it provides their customers with the convenience of purchasing protected games whenever or however they like.

“It has become clear that gamers are embracing the digital distribution of games,” said Jon Estanislao, Senior Manager of Online Publishing at Activision. “Activision is committed to delivering its content across multiple distribution channels and Macrovision has the ability to protect, and increase the reach of our games to our fans.”

“By teaming with Activision, we are providing consumers with easier access to high quality content through a broad variety of channels,” said Fred Amoroso, CEO, Macrovision. “Macrovision’s protection and distribution solutions continue to support the digital distribution of content online and assist businesses in capitalizing on the advantages of e-commerce.”

Macrovision’s games network has more than 300 affiliates worldwide with more than 1700 games available for download.
