'Mafia: Definitive Edition' (ALL) Update Adds Noir Mode, HUD Options, Fixes, Tweaks And More

by Rainier on Oct. 7, 2020 @ 3:56 p.m. PDT

The city of Lost Heaven is at war as the Salieri and Morello mobs fight to control the lucrative protection rackets, smuggling and the women of Lost Heaven.

Mafia: Trilogy is a new collection featuring the only interactive entertainment series that lets players live the life of a gangster across three distinct eras of organized crime in America.

Combined, the critically acclaimed Mafia crime dramas have sold-in more than 18 million units worldwide. Now, for the first time on modern consoles, experience all three entries of the revered action-adventure series together in one definitive organized crime saga. Mafia: Trilogy includes:

  • Mafia: Definitive Edition – The built-from-the-ground-up remake of the beloved classic;
  • Mafia II: Definitive Edition – The ultra HD remaster of the fan favorite;
  • Mafia III: Definitive Edition – The re-introduction of the award-winning narrative masterpiece.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a comprehensive, rebuilt-from-the-ground-up remake of the original Mafia, complete with an updated script filled with rich new dialogue, expanded backstories, and additional cutscenes; all-new gameplay sequences and features; the same stellar game engine that powered Mafia III’s best-in-class cinematics; and other enhancements. It’s the Mafia players remember, only much more.

2K and Hangar 13 released the first post-launch update for Mafia: Definitive Edition, which adds new features free for all players. Among these new features is Noir Mode, a visual option that paints Mafia: Definitive Edition’s gameplay and cinematics with a vintage black-and-white look, complete with moody film grain effects to further accentuate the game’s Prohibition Era aesthetic.

Today’s update also includes new heads-up display (HUD) options that allow players to switch the in-world main objective marker on and off; switch mini-map enemy markers on and off in all difficulty settings; enable or disable navigation features like turn-by-turn instructions and mini-map GPS; and enable a new minimal HUD mode that hides HUD elements like the mini-map, speedometer, and objective text.

Update details:

  • Custom HUD Options
    Use these new options to customize the in-game HUD if, for example, you want to make your explorations of Lost Heaven feel less guided or take a particularly pleasing screenshot:
    • Switch the in-world main objective marker on/off.
    • Switch mini-map enemy markers on/off on all difficulty settings. (Previously enemy markers were always on outside of Classic Mode.)
    • Switch navigation features like turn-by-turn instructions and the mini-map GPS on/off.
    • Enable the new Minimal HUD mode to hide HUD elements including the mini-map, the speedometer, and objective text while playing.
  • Noir Mode
    Enable Noir Mode to enjoy Mafia: Definitive Edition's gameplay and cinematics with a vintage black-and-white look. Noir Mode can be toggled on and off via the game options screen.
  • Free Ride Content
    Now that you're off to the races and enjoying Free Ride mode, depending on which vehicle you're driving and where you're driving it, you might find one of a couple new gameplay features that we've added to the mode. We'll leave the specifics for you to discover and hope you fare well in Lost Heaven.

Mafia: Definitive Edition fixes in this update include but are not limited to the following:

  • Addressed a reported issue that sometimes prevented the correct vehicles from unlocking in the player garage upon completion of the optional Lucas Bertone missions. Players who have completed these missions should find the correct vehicles in their garage the next time they start the game.
  • Addressed a reported concern that a special assassination animation sometimes wasn't triggering correctly during the mission "The Saint and The Sinner."
  • Addressed a reported concern that certain cinematics would occasionally show a black screen.

Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, and Mafia III: Definition Edition are also available for purchase individually. The Definitive Editions for Mafia II and Mafia III are available today within the Mafia: Trilogy and as standalone purchases on Xbox One, PS4, and PC via Steam, and will be coming to the Epic Games Store and Stadia at a later date. Both Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition feature all original bonus add-on content, plus completely remastered 4K compatible visuals for Mafia II.

Mafia II: Definitive Edition will be automatically granted to all existing owners of Mafia II on Steam at no additional cost. Additionally, all existing Mafia III owners on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam) will be upgraded to Mafia III: Definitive Edition today at no additional cost. Customers who own a combination of titles will receive special reduced-price upgrade offers to complete their trilogy via in-game menus within each of the Mafia titles.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is available worldwide on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
