'Severed Steel' Teases Upcoming Content, Console Versions Delayed Until Early 2022 - Trailer

by Rainier on Dec. 9, 2021 @ 9:06 a.m. PST

Severed Steel is a single-player FPS featuring a fluid stunt system, no weapon reloads, destructible voxel environments, and a one-armed protagonist named Steel.

After losing an arm in an accident, Steel is abandoned – like many before her – by nefarious mega-corporation, EdenSys. In the name of all those crushed under the boot of her former paymaster, Steel sets her sights on revenge.

Inspired by games such as Black, Mirror's Edge, F.E.A.R., and Half-Life mod 'The Specialists', Severed Steel casts players in the role of one-armed protagonist Steel as she battles against the forces of nefarious mega-corporation, EdenSys. The game features bullet-time and a fluid stunt system that allows Steel to wall run, dive, slide, and flip around the destructible environments.

Steel's residual limb means she can't reload weapons. When a gun is out of ammo, she must find a replacement, which often means stealing a weapon straight from the hands of an enemy. During the campaign, Steel is fitted with a permanent secondary weapon – an arm cannon capable of blowing holes in pretty much anything that gets in its way.

It's you, your trigger finger, and a steel-toed boot against a superstructure full of bad guys. Chain together wall runs, dives, flips, and slides to take every last enemy down.

Severed Steel publisher Digerati has revealed some of the new content that has been added to the stylish FPS since its launch on PC earlier in the year.

Two recent major updates from Severed Steel developer Greylock Studio have delivered a New Game + mode, two additional arm cannons (Gravity Gun and Impact Driver), level playlists in Firefight mode, enhanced explosion effects, and many other tweaks and improvements. In addition to the extra in-game content, new Steam Achievements, trading cards and community items have also been added since Severed Steel's release.

More content is planned for Q1 2022, and will include new and extended Campaign levels. There will also be further improvements to Severed Steel's level editor, which the community has already used to create some incredible original maps, as well as homages to genre classics Counter-Strike (Dust II) and Perfect Dark (Grid).

"I’m thrilled with the response to Severed Steel’s launch. Having been a gamer my whole life it is a trip to be on the other side," says the game's director and developer, Matt Larrabee. "The response from the community has been great, particularly the custom levels made through the editor. One level editor from the community has been brought onboard the dev team to help make a campaign extension, coming soon!"
