'Cities: VR' Rolls Out First Patch, Metro & Traffic Routing Content Update Coming In June

by Rainier on May 11, 2022 @ 9:13 a.m. PDT

Made for VR, Cities: VR brings the definitive city-building experience of Cities: Skylines into virtual reality for the very first time.

Cities: VR will give management fans and upstart urban planners the chance to live out their architecture and civil engineering dreams in a virtual world by simulating bustling  neighborhoods, streets and buildings in all-new ways. Playing mayor has never been more intuitive, with the opportunity to handle your city’s economics, emergency services, education and entertainment by building and managing your city in an interactive landscape... With precise and tactile feedback, as well as a palette of easy to use tools, players can enjoy a specially designed control system that encourages productive creativity.

Cities: VR is a new take on the leading city-building simulation, Cities: Skylines, and is both a great entry-point to the franchise and a compelling new experience for Cities: Skylines veterans. This experience keeps the core gameplay elements of the franchise intact, while offering a unique approach to the simulation through VR.

With a never before seen level of immersion, Cities: VR will allow players to see their skylines shoot up from an expansive bird’s eye view, or become part of their cities and watch them come alive from building level. After all, a mayor should be able to observe their citizens in real time, seeing new neighborhoods emerge from hard work and thoughtful design.

Cities: VR is a more intimate and focused city management simulation than its predecessor, and isn’t a direct port of Cities: Skylines. VR does not allow for the size and scale the PC version offers, choosing to emphasize more intimate experiences set in smaller areas. Some features PC players have grown accustomed to, such as terrain editing and natural disasters, are not part of Cities: VR. However, just as the PC game has been continually updated throughout its history, Fast Travel plans to add additional content and features to Cities: VR over time.

Fast Travel Games has released the first patch for Cities: VR, improving the onboarding experience for new players through an enhanced tutorial, a controller help menu option and more, while also adding improvements to the game in other areas. Full patch notes can be found here.

In June, Cities: VRwill also be getting new, free content called the 'Metro & Traffic Routing Update' which will allow citizens to find their way across the Cities underground system and provide mayors with improved tools to direct the flow of traffic.

Key Features:

  • Build and Manage Your Ideal City: Get hands on with an immersive and comprehensive city-building simulation like no other. Control every aspect of urban planning - from the downtown center roadways to utility line placement in suburban districts - and build your ultimate city.
  • An Immersive & Scenic Simulator: Experience your creations in the most immersive VR city building simulation to date. Raise the city of your dreams from the ground up through an unparalleled level of presence, immersion and hands-on gameplay. See your skyline rise from an expansive bird's eye view, or become a part of your creation and watch your city come alive from the streets.
  • The Definitive City-Building VR Game: Cities: VR takes the core gameplay experience of leading city-building simulation Cities: Skylines and brings it to life like never before.
  • Easy to Pick Up: A detailed, easy-to-follow tutorial will take players through the basics of city building in VR. Precise and tactile feedback and a palette of tools at your fingertips makes for an easy-to-use control system.

The game is being solely developed and published by Fast Travel Games, who has licensed the IP from Paradox Interactive.

Cities: VR is available for Meta Quest 2 at $29.99
