'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' Will Reveal More Songs of the Past Expansion Details During Gamescom

by Rainier on July 21, 2026 @ 4:38 p.m. PDT

Marking the final installment in the action RPG trilogy, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt combines decision-based storytelling flair with a living open world larger than any other in modern RPG history.

Open-world, free-roaming exploration is an adventure in itself as the player will gallop through war-ravaged lands, sail misty waters and track down dangerous beasts for money.

An improved combat system will allow players to feel like a real monster-hunter, a witcher who uses his superior senses and fighting skills to survive in a dark fantasy world--while he embarks on a quest to save his loved ones.

The new core mechanics of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt immerse the player in the experience completely, with no Quick Time Events, only intuitive RPG gameplay.

Songs of the Past will return players to the role of legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia for a brand new adventure when it launches in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

CD Projekt Red is delighted to announce its presence at gamescom 2026, with new information on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past being revealed during gamescom Opening Night Live, airing on August 25, 2026 at

Fans attending gamescom in Cologne, Germany can receive a guided presentation of Songs of the Past at the CD Projekt Red booth. Showcases of the brand new expansion will be held in the business area, booth B065 in Hall 4.2, from August 26 to August 28, and in the entertainment area, booths B030 and A031 in Hall 8.1, from August 26 to August 30.

Upcoming changes to minimum requirements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

With new content coming to the game, we need to update our system requirements to ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Songs of the Past

Starting from the next update, the new minimum requirements are as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Intel Core i5-8400
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB
VRAM: 6 GB
RAM: 12 GB
Storage: 70 GB SSD
OS: 64-bit Windows 11

These minimum requirements reflect how hardware capabilities and software usage have evolved since we last changed the system requirements. In particular:

  • Windows 11 will be the minimum required OS for both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 following Microsoft's end of support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Without ongoing security updates, official platform support, and continued GPU driver support, we will no longer test our games on Windows 10.
  • HDDs will no longer be supported, as SSDs offer faster load times, smoother asset streaming, and improved overall performance.
  • The game will exclusively run using DirectX 12, which allows us to support ongoing technical improvements and modern hardware more effectively.
  • Only processors supported on Windows 11 will be supported by us.
  • Only graphics cards with ongoing active driver support for gaming on Windows 11 will be supported.

Please note that it's possible to revert to an earlier version of the game, see how to do it here.

  • Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth and complexity.
    • Traverse a fantastical open world: explore forgotten ruins, caves and shipwrecks, trade with merchants and dwarven smiths in cities, and hunt across the open plains, mountains and seas.
