Can a world get both darker and brighter at the same time?
World Of Warcraft: Midnight continues this epic tale as the Champions of Azeroth are reeling from the schemes of the harbinger of the Void, Xal’atath, who left them vulnerable in the wake of taking down Dimensius, the All-Devouring during the events of The War Within. But this duality extends beyond just the conflict between Light and Void. It also examines the dichotomy of destruction and creation. As the forces of the Void threaten to destroy Azeroth, players now have the freedom to create something for which they’ve long requested…a home.
After diving deep into the heart of Azeroth in the current expansion The War Within, Midnight brings us back to the surface (mostly), where the Void is rising and the stakes couldn’t be higher. The expansion kicks off with a desperate defense of the Sunwell, as Xal’atath’s forces descend on Silvermoon. From there, you’ll journey through four major zones.

World of Warcraft: Midnight v12.2: Eclipse (Coming Early 2027)
Since the start of the Worldsoul Saga, the Harbinger of the Void, Xal’atath, has been on a campaign against the forces of the Light, gaining allies, building her power, and with the events of the March on Quel’Danas, escaped through the Darkwell to an unknown destination along with hordes of her Devouring Host.
Until now, her motivations, her goals, and her destination have been closely guarded. As events unfold in Eclipse, the last major content update for World of Warcraft: Midnight (12.2), Xal’atath’s sights are clear: Azeroth’s Worldsoul.
The champions of Azeroth will need to return to the depths of the world and battle their way through a new zone, The Mantle Vault, an ancient place of Titan origin sealed off for thousands of years. It is here they must confront Xal’atath once and for all before she enacts her plans to “become one” with the Worldsoul contained at the center of the Worldcore.
But as Azeroth’s champions close in on Xal’atath, it becomes clear that a much larger and older mystery unfolds about the land, its denizens, and Azeroth itself and begs the question, will defeating Xal’atath be enough, or will it signal a much larger threat?
New Content:
- THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN WITH XAL’ATATH AWAITS – The Mantle Vault serves at the backdrop of Eclipse located deep within the core of Azeroth. Players will explore the lands, confront local enemies that will include a new lair, The Gearhold, and earn rewards on a new faction renown track with the Radiant Core. As Xal’atath moves toward her goal of becoming one with the worldsoul, Radiant Screams will trigger zone-wide events for flexible group sizes and offer unique rewards.
- SAVE AZEROTH IN THE WORLDCORE – The Worldcore is a new 8-boss raid where players will need to carve a path to the center to save Azeroth’s worldsoul. It is here they will confront Xal’atath after fighting through her most powerful lieutenants as well as the Worldcore’s defenses.
- SEASON 3 MYTHIC+ BRINGS A FRESH DUNGEON POOL – A new 3-boss dungeon, Thraegar’s Stand, will provide players with updated gear rewards and joins seven other dungeons for season 3’s Mythic+ dungeon pool. Those dungeons include: Magister’s Terrace and Maisara Cavern from Midnight and legacy dungeons The Underrot (Battle for Azeroth), Iron Docks (Warlords of Draenor), Sanguine Depths (Shadowlands), The Stonecore (Cataclysm) and Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr (Dragonflight).
- CONFRONT A FAMILIAR FOE IN DELVES SEASON 3 – Throughout Midnight, Astalor Bloodsworn has been doling out assignments to the Champions of Azeroth by way of the Prey system, seeking to confront powerful foes to help save Azeroth – through “alternative measures” – and wielding their anguish as a source of power. But it seems that anguish has clouded Astalor’s mind and players will need to confront him as he taunts from the shadows as the Season 3 delve nemesis.
- WIELD THE POWER OF THE VOID –Eclipse introduces the Worldsoul Saga’s first legendary weapon, Midnight’s Edge, a caster dagger that will be unlocked with an equally legendary questline that begins with conquering the Worldcore raid.
- NEW PALADINS JOIN THE FRAY – Three new races embrace the power of the Light and join their respective Paladin orders. Discover a different path of Light as a Night Elf Paladin; reclaim the legacy of Lordaeron’s guardians as a Forsaken Paladin; or, join the light-wielding trolls as a Darkspear Paladin.
Check out a few things coming in Midnight:
- New Expansion Hub: Silvermoon City
- Rebuilt Silvermoon City includes new areas like the Sanctum of Light and Memorial Garden, and areas that remain accessible by Horde players only.
- New & Updated Zones:
- Eversong Woods: Lands that have healed in the years following the Scourge invasion now facing new threats in the mysterious lightbloom as well cultists serving the Void.
- Zul’Aman: Explore beyond the confines of the original raid space to discover what lies in the surrounding forests and aid the Zul’Amani Trolls as they work to reconnect with their lost Loa.
- Harandar: Return to the depths of the world to behold the convergence of the roots of Azeroth’s world trees in this primordial, fungal jungle.
- The Voidstorm: the chaotic beauty is both wondrous and deadly as the forces of the Void break through from this land to invade Azeroth.
- New System Feature: Prey
- Opt-in hunting system led by Astalor Bloodsworn, based in Murder Row of Silvermoon City. This system adds an extra layer of outdoor world gameplay for players seeking more thrill and challenge as they adventure across Midnight’s zones.

- Available classes: Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock, Monk, Druid.
- New Demon Hunter Specialization: Devourer
- A mid-ranged DPS specialization that forsakes the Fel energies that fuel the other specializations and instead embraces the Void as a source of power.
- This comes with a new race/class combination as Void Elves can join the ranks of the Illidari as Demon Hunters.
- New PVP Content
- Slayer’s Rise: a portion of the Voidstorm will serve as a new world PVP hotspot as well as a new epic battleground, inspired by Alertac Valley and Isle of Conquest.
- Training Grounds: The current Comp Stomp brawl expands to two new battlegrounds, Silvershard Mines and Battle for Gilneas, as players face non-player combatants in this mode that will now be permanently available.
- New Feature: Player Housing
- After more than 20 years of thwarting world-ending threats, the Champions of Azeroth will now (finally) get a piece of Azeroth to call their own.
- This robust evergreen system puts player creativity at the forefront with a potential for thousands of décor items that can be used to build the home players have dreamt of in Azeroth (much of which will be earned through natural gameplay).
And so much more including expansion staples such as new raids, dungeons, delves and quality of life updates.
Quality-of-Life Overhaul
Midnight also brings a ton of UI and gameplay improvements:
