As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

6. 'Kingdom Hearts III' (PS4/XOne)

by Judy on Jan. 27, 2019 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

A mature Sora sets out on a new adventure, as Kingdom Hearts III makes full use of next-generation console technologies to deliver more exhilarating, action-packed gameplay and various fun features.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: The long-awaited finale of the Kingdom Hearts series, Kingdom Hearts III was almost 20 years and over a dozen games in the making. The unusual fusion of Disney and Final Fantasy combines to create a game that's like none other on the market. Featuring highly anticipated series like "Frozen" and "Tangled," Kingdom Hearts III is shaping up to be the biggest and best game in the franchise yet.

Joe Doyle: This is the direct sequel of a game that shaped my childhood. Kingdom Hearts perfectly bridged the gap between my youth and teen years, using the familiar faces and themes of Disney narratives to introduce me to more complex game mechanics and styles, as well as the characters of Final Fantasy games when I'd never even touched a classic RPG before. As someone who actively tries to understand the story behind these games, the closure of this story arc is gonna be incredibly strange and fulfilling to me, both personally and objectively.

Rhi Mitera: I can barely remember a time when I wasn't waiting for Kingdom Hearts III. KH2 came out 14 years ago, so I won't believe KH3 is actually coming out until it's in my hands. I'm ready to cry about Mickey Mouse again.

Andreas Salmen: How can you not be excited about the conclusion of a story that was years in the making?  At this point, we know that Kingdom Hearts III is indeed a joyous experience, but it also marks the end of the storyline of a game collaboration across franchises that seems too strange to actually exist. I deem it unlikely this will be the last time we've heard of it, but given how long we had to wait for KH3, I would expect that this entry will have to satisfy us for quite a while.

David Silbert: Reviews have already rolled out for Kingdom Hearts III, but that doesn't make my excitement for the game any less palpable. With Kingdom Hearts II nearing 14 years of age, to say that the release of Kingdom Hearts III has been long coming would be a complete understatement. Despite the prevalence of solid spin-off games over the years, it feels good to know that we'll be able to see the long-awaited conclusion to Sora, Donald, and Goofy's story unfold on our home consoles. We're nearly there!
