Microsoft Not Immune to Weak Economy, 5,000 LayOffs Coming

Late last year, Microsoft revealed that in light of the weakened economy it would be laying off up to 17% of its workforce (15,000 employees), and now that the numbers are in (2% increase in revenue, but an 11% decrease in net income) the Redmond powerhouse announced that in order to reduce the company’s annual operating expense run rate by approximately $1.5 billion it will be laying off 5,000 jobs in R&D, marketing, sales, finance, legal, HR, and IT over the next 18 months.

Ubisoft's Q3 2008 Financials Positive, 'I Am Alive' Delay, New Titles Confirmed

Ubisoft's Q3 2008-09 financial results are better than expected, up 13% compared to last year, mainly due to Far Cry 2 (2.9 million units) and Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party (1.5 mill.) and its casual lineup, which offset the slower take-off for Prince of Persia (2.2 mill. units). While previously listed as Q1 2009, I Am Alive has been bumped into Ubisoft's 2009-2010 lineup, which means at the earliest April 2009, joined by Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and a new Ghost Recon title.
