UK-based game publisher SCi Entertainment has acquired Pivotal Games for 2.36 million pounds (approximately 3.9 million dollars). Pivotal is the developer of the Conflict: Desert Storm series of tactical shooters and The Great Escape. Pivotal is completing the third game in the Conflict series and has begun development of the fourth. Pivotal Games was previously a subsidiary of Kaboom Studios – which recently closed its doors due to the poor performance of other components of its business. Pivotal currently employs approximately 70 people. The move is a unique one for SCi - which operates a business model generally based on outsourcing development to third parties.

Hip Interactive announced today the signing of an agreement with Strategy First naming Hip's Publishing Division as the principal North American vendor for approximately twenty PC titles over the next thirteen months. Nine titles will be released before Christmas 2003, including the much-anticipated sequel to Etherlords, a stand-alone add-on for the popular Jagged Alliance series, and a new title in the award-winning Disciples series. Strategy First has released an update patch for their recently released Disciples II expansion packs. This patch will fix the problem some people are having completing the second map of the high-level Clans campaign, corrects a few text errors and adds an explanation for the new high-level icons that appear on unit portraits in the Manual Addendum (PDF). SCi today announces that it has acquired the interactive rights from Artisan Entertainment, Inc. to Reservoir Dogs. Originally released in 1992, 'Reservoir Dogs' received critical acclaim when it screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January 1991. The director was Quentin Tarantino who has since developed a cult movie following around the world.

Octagon is seeking publishing partners in Asia for Battle Cards: MetalTech from Swedish developer
Disciples of the Machine. MetalTech is a massively multiplayer online game that is a rare find in the MMOG genre as it features addictive gameplay involving trading cards. Players must strategically choose which cards to unleash from their own decks to conquer challengers' front lines of defense. Cards are divided into seven categories and function in terms of combat tactics, energy and special effects. The game is designed so that players can download the game client and practice free of charge. Advanced decks are available for purchase and new card packs are introduced each month. MetalTech also offers a spectator option in which players can scope out the competition in the heat of battle. MetalTech is scheduled to be completed Q2 2003.
