Electronic Arts today announced that The Sims 2, the next generation of the #1 PC game of all time, is in development at the company's Walnut Creek-based Maxis studio. For the first time, players control their Sims over an entire lifetime. Every choice that is made has a relevant and dramatic effect on the life of a Sim. More life-like Sims, all-new gameplay, and the ground-breaking addition of genetics, with the DNA of Sims passed down through generations gives players a more vivid, realistic, and in-depth Sims experience. All of this takes place in a new amazingly life-like 3-D world. The Sims 2 will be unveiled to industry insiders on May 13th at the Electronic Entertainment Exposition in Los Angeles and is scheduled to ship in early 2004.

Capcom today announced the release of Auto Modellista, the highly anticipated online racing action for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system. Auto Modellista is the first true cell-shaded online racing game to utilize SEGA Network Application Package (SNAP) technology for networked gameplay. The online feature in Auto Modellista provides players the option of racing head-to-head with eight driving opponents online. Electronic Arts today announced the release of its highly anticipated PC game, The Sims Online. The Sims Online is the Internet, multi-player version of the top-selling PC game of all time, The Sims. The Sims Online is a massive virtual world created and populated by thousands of players from around the world. In this never-ending alternative reality players can be themselves or "Be Somebody. Else." In The Sims Online, players create and control the actions of a character known as a Sim. Players enter the world with a small amount of money to spend as they wish. They can purchase their own piece of land to do with as they please or they can join with other players to create shared homes and businesses or host wild events.

Wired.com reports that the most hotly anticipated, breathlessly hyped game of the year may not make it into gamers' stockings. The virtual suburban world of The Sims Online was supposed to be in stores in November, according to published reports. But the game's creator, Will Wright, said last week the release was pushed back to Dec. 18, as programmers tried to work out the kinks in the game's economic system. And, he added, the game might not ship until after yuletide.
