SCi/Eidos' takeover talks that it declared were "over" in early 2008 are
back on track with EA, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. (who already owns 20% of SCi) in the running, but according to UK trade mag
MCV, a new player has emerged. A few months ago, Square Enix tried to acquire
Tecmo but was rejected in favor of KOEI, while more recently it not only signed Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander 2, but has also set up a
new development studio in California, making its Western expansion plans quite clear.

With SCi/Eidos'
losses mounting, the
takeover talks that it declared were "over" in early 2008 are back on track, according to UK's
DailyMail. Back in February, SCi started
restructuring, delaying and canceling various titles, and a few months later secured $120 million funding by
partnering with Warner Bros. (having turned down
an offer from Infogrames), but none of that seems to have stopped it shares from plummeting. Looking to acquire the Tomb Raider/Hitman publisher, which was once valued £1billion, on the cheap, inside sources reveal EA and Ubisoft might have a renewed interest.

Eidos parent company SCi released its 2007 financial results revealing a £99.1 million loss compared to £13.3 million the year prior. SCi CEO Phil Rogers attributes the increased loss to the restructuring it started last year, cutting various studios and titles, but says the results of that should start showing this fiscal year. Rogers also announced that at the upcoming Dec. 2 shareholder meeting a name change proposal will be presented, as apparently it thinks Eidos is a strong product brand name.

Ever since SCi, Eidos' parent company, revealed that it was in "early/preliminary" talks with several interested parties regarding a possible takeover, rumors have been plentiful. When David Zucker became Midway's CEO in 2003, there were negotiations but nothing came of it, and
a few months back Ubisoft stated it was no longer interested.
Industry insiders now claim SCi and Midway may have picked up where they left off, but neither party gave any comment.
