Gears of War 2 picks up six months after the events of the original, thrusting players back into humankind's epic battle for survival against a nightmarish force of underground creatures known as the Locust Horde. Epic has released the promised major title update for GoW2 that addresses bugs, online exploits, and new achievements related to DLCs.

Sony is preparing to release a new v2.60 PS3 firmware update, which primarily enhances the system’s media capabilities. The main feature is the Photo Gallery application, which will allow you to organize you pics according to various criteria (camera used, the event date and time, number, etc..), create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface. The update also adds guest access to PlayStation Store for non-PlayStation Network members, and DivX 3.11 video support.

According to the NPD Group's December sales numbers, the industry grew 9%, making for an overall 19% growth in 2008 (amounting to $21.3 billion). Not surprisingly 2008's big winners are Nintendo's Wii (10.2 million units) and NDS (9.9 mill. units), followed by Microsoft's X360 (4.7 mill. units) and Sony's PS3 (3.6 mill. units). Acquired by Sony in 2007, UK based Evolution Studios (known for the Motorstorm franchise) will be moving in with Sony's Liverpool Studio (known for WipEout HD). Midway Games has reached a waiver and forbearance agreement with the holders of its $75 million principal amount of 7.125% Convertible Senior Notes due 2026, extending their right to require Midway to repurchase the notes until Feb. 19, 2009. Midway is currently also in discussions with the holders of its 6% Convertible Senior Notes due 2025 to obtain a similar waiver and forbearance agreement.

Not only does Tribes 2 add a single-player element to the multiplayer FPS, but also new weapons, levels, play modes, characters, vehicles, as well as a new engine allowing for real-time weather including wind, rain, fog and other effects. While Sierra released Tribes 2 for free in 2004, it closed down the multiplayer servers in Oct. 2008, leaving long time fans out on the cold, until now. TribesNext has put up its own server and issued a patch to remove the CD key and enable multiplayer functionality.
