Matrix Games released a new patch for its tactical war game, Flashpoint Germany. This update brings your retail game to v1.04 includes minor bug fixes and major compatibility and performance improvements for Win98/ME users. Additionally two new features were added; an improved user interface for the Unit Description Panel and a counter for turns played vs. turns left in the game. The turn counter will allow players to better predict arrival of reinforcements.

Anchor Bay Entertainment announced today its entrance into the Universal Media Disc (UMD) marketplace with six popular films. On August 23rd, the company will release Halloween, Evil Dead, Time Bandits, Blood the Last Vampire as well as Manga Entertainment’s Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll on UMD. THQ today announced that it has entered into a worldwide publishing agreement with Gas Powered Games, founded by game design visionary, Chris Taylor. The two companies will work together on the RTS game Supreme Commander. With Supreme Commander, Taylor, an early pioneer in the RTS category, will mark his return to a genre that he helped popularize.

The initial plan following the Half-Life 2 launch was to get a near direct port of the existing Day of Defeat up and running and release it to the community. After an initial test, Valve did not think the port was up to par and started to rework all of the content, hoping that people would be happier waiting for the product to ship while giving DoD the attention it deserved. Today they released the first screenshot from dod_flash, showing off what they have been working on.

The newest PC Gamer issue reveals what is called the spiritual successor to Cavedog's Total Annihilation. Chris Taylor went on to form Gas Powered Games, who are now working on Supreme Commander, to be published by THQ. We unearthed a presentation document outlining what was called once TA2. We can only assume this is the same, albeit renamed, product after Chris Taylor was unable to obtain the license back from Atari, so the info might not be 100% up to date.

Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 Xbox auto-update 1 is now available. This update includes the following features: fixed the looping machine gun sound, the second local player on a client machine can now use voice chat, in multiplayer, killed characters more consistently play the correct death animation, a client's view of other player's orientation is now much more accurate. This update will take place automatically when you connect to Xbox Live and is only applicable to online players.

Valve's
SteamPowered website has been updated with details regarding yet another update for Source SDK, fixing a number of connection problems to the backend of VAC2 (Valve's anti-cheat technology for game servers). VAC2 currently only runs on servers in the beta group, but will be active for all servers very soon.. Just restart Steam for the effects to take place.
