SNK's playing a sort of three-card monte game with their games' titles. The King of Fighters 2006 began its life as the sequel to last year's KOF: Maximum Impact, SNK's slightly underwhelming first entry into the 3D realm. In Japan, KOF2006 is, simply, Maximum Impact 2.
As such, KOF2006 features a slightly larger cast, with MI's boss Duke becoming playable, 14 hidden characters, and the 3D debut of KOF favorites Billy Kane and Kula Diamond.
What does this all mean to you, the casual player? A classic fighting

The King of Fighters is a long, long running series. This fighting game series has been running at the speed of Madden for a major length of time, until it stopped annual releases in 2003 and went to subseries like Neowave and Maximum Impact. Now we're back to the original series, with the Roman numerals translating to 12, with a nice set of HD updates that bring the series into the current generation.
The standards of The King of Fighters are in effect: Take many SNK

Let’s clear one small thing up here, all right? This isn’t really SNK’s first foray into the realm of 3D. Before this, they had the Samurai Shodown games on NeoGeo CD, 64 and Warrior’s Rage, neither of which are worth the considerable effort they take to find; and Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition, an excellent game on extremely rare hardware, which is unfortunately better known for a terrifically botched PSOne port.
So this, King of Fighters: Maximum Impact, is really SNK’s fourth foray into 3D, and the

And so we return, and begin again. SNK, apparently wishing to avoid another quick volley of rapid bankruptcies, is once again bringing two of the latest King of Fighters games to the PlayStation2 as well as the Xbox, within the same affordable package. In this particular case, it’s a weird set; it takes the series from one of its lowest points, to arguably its highest, within the same package.
King of Fighters 2002 is the second of the two “placeholder” games, which were kicked out
