1C Company has just informed us that they released the first patch for Jazz And Faust (developed by Saturn Plus) bringing their just released 3D Adventure game to v1.1! Battlefield 1942 will support up to 64 players and give them the ability to fully experience World War II combat. Playing as several infantry classes, gamers will also be able to control many weapons available to the Axis and Allies as well as command numerous land vehicles, ships and aircraft. With larger craft such as a bomber or battleship, the game will allow players to choose what stations they serve - pilot, gunner, bombardier, etc. Proper use and management of each vehicle will determine the success or failure of each battle.

Sony Online Entertainment Inc. today announced deals with Snowblind Studios Inc. and Rapid Eye Entertainment Inc. to create original content for the PC and console markets under the SOE label. Rapid Eye Entertainment is currently developing a real-time strategy, PC-based EverQuest game while Snowblind Studios is developing an EverQuest-based product for the PlayStation®2. Electronic Arts announced today that it has reached an agreement with Pierce Brosnan to use the famous Bond actor’s likeness in their upcoming video game, James Bond 007: NightFire™. The game, which uses an original storyline created exclusively for the interactive project, is based on the Bond universe and will be released worldwide the same month as the newest 007 film starring Brosnan, "Die Another Day" produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. NightFire is currently under development and is scheduled for a simultaneous release on the PlayStation2 , Xbox, GameCube and PC. GameSpy: Is compatibility with DirectX 9 completely hardware dependent or can it be achieved with drivers updates?
David/Eric: It’s all hardware dependent. In the same sense that a DirectX game will run on a GeForce4 MX card, you’ll only get the features that were already available in DirectX 7. The same is true for the high-end GeForce cards. While DirectX 9 games will run on them, only the features implemented in DirectX 8.1 will be present. Features written for DirectX 9 will simply be disabled. This is because each version of DirectX has to be backwards compatible, but as new features are added [like floating point calculations], new hardware must be created to take advantage of it.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell will release in time for the lucrative Christmas 2002 market exclusively on Xbox, with a PC version to appear by the end of the year.
