Yesterday Microsoft's latest financial results revealed that the software giant would be laying off 5,000 people over the next 18 months, starting with 1,400 immediate dismissals. While rumors are that the entertainment division will be hit hard (Zune and Xbox) it has been confirmed that ACES, the internal studio responsible for the long-running Flight Simulator series, will be shut down. However, Microsoft also said that this does not mean the end of the franchise; it will continue, but no specific details were disclosed.

Mid Dec. 2008 Electronic Arts finally caved and decided to offer its latest titles through Valve's digital delivery system
Steam, in addition to its own, often criticized, EA Store. The initial titles were Spore, Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack, Warhammer Online, Mass Effect, Need for Speed Undercover and FIFA Manager 2009, with more to follow. Several weeks later a second batch of titles has been added, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, and Dead Space with Mirror's Edge to follow in the near future.

Last June, research firm Intellisponse revealed that Turn 10 was working on Forza 3, a racing sim with over 400 cars and 100 tracks, new race modes, near limitless customization options, real world damage, online community features, powerful assist mode for new players, new cars and tracks as DLC.
