EA has signed on as official sponsor for Sci-Fi London, a dedicated sci-fi and fantastic film festival which will run from 30 April – 4 May 2008 at the Apollo West End theater, and will be showing off titles such as Mass Effect, C&C3: Kane’s Wrath, Spore, Boom Blox and give attendees a sneak preview of its space horror game Dead Space.

Eidos parent company SCi announces a re-structuring plan changing from a centrally controlled development and publishing model to a studio-led business, focused around cornerstone products such as Tomb Raider, Hitman and Deus Ex. SCi will lay off 25% of its workforce, cancel 14 titles, and delay 4, mainly Tomb Raider: Underworld, now scheduled for Christmas 2008.

Once known for starring alongside Kurt Russell in 1982's horror film The Thing, actor Keith David is probably more known for voicing the Arbiter in Microsoft's Halo than his acting career.
According to Reuters, video games have helped resuscitate the careers of actors doing voice-overs as their status in Hollywood fades. Although they usually charge $760 for a four-hour recording session, one Hollywood celebrity asked for $750,000 and was turned down, but so far, the highest, unspecified payout has been $500K.

When SCi announced it was no longer conducting any merger/buyout talks, the top management of Eidos' parent company came under pressure from disappointed shareholders. As a result CEO Jane Cavanagh, managing director of publishing Bill Ennis, and managing director of studios Rob Murphy have stepped down and left the company. Former EA/Criterion exec Phil Rogers will move from his CFO position into the CEO seat, while US CFO Malcolm Dunne will take Rogers' position.

Eidos parent company SCi announced it no longer believes a sale of the company is in its best interest, and also updated its 2008 release schedule, delaying 4 of its 10 2008 titles until the end of the year, with the most prominent being Tomb Raider: Underworld, (previously on PC, PS3 and X360, now also on NDS, Wii and PS2). Eidos revealed that controversial Kane & Lynch has sold more than 1 million copies since launch.

Ever since SCi, Eidos' parent company, revealed that it was in "early/preliminary" talks with several interested parties regarding a possible takeover, rumors have been plentiful. When David Zucker became Midway's CEO in 2003, there were negotiations but nothing came of it, and
a few months back Ubisoft stated it was no longer interested.
Industry insiders now claim SCi and Midway may have picked up where they left off, but neither party gave any comment.

Last month, speculation ran wild when Eidos' parent company SCi revealed that it was in early stages of talks with several interested parties to take over the UK publisher/developer. A few weeks back SCi, Eidos' parent company, revealed that it was in preliminary talks with an interested party regarding a possible takeover, although it stressed that negotiations were very early. According to the TimesOnline, there could be more to it, as it claims not one, but three entities are looking into taking over the Lara Croft publisher: Ubisoft, Time Warner (who already owns 10%) and an unidentified Chinese company. The strong interest in the UK publisher/developer has sent its stock prices soaring 5%.

UK trademagazine MCV is bringing back the long running rumor that Eidos parent company SCi is up for grabs again. An apparent statement from SCi states that it "has entered into extremely preliminary discussions regarding a possible offer," while at the same time mentioning that so far no proposal has been offered, nor does it mean one will be made at all. Possible interested parties are EA, as usual, and also Warner, who not so long ago acquired a 10% state in Sci.

SCi has released its quarterly results, reflecting an increase in revenue (from $47.9 to $146.3 million) and a 10% decrease in operational loss. More importantly CEO Jane Cavanagh confirmed a Battlestations: Midway sequel is in development, and no less than 11 other new titles are scheduled, such as Kane & Lynch, Highlander, Crossfire: Search and Destroy, and its first casual titles Jewel Quest, Diner Dash, and Cubis 2. SCi/Eidos decided to delay its PS3 titles for Sony's next-gen platform due to its limited install base.

SCi has acquired online distribution specialist Bluefish Media, allowing Eidos to grow its successful New Media and Casual Games businesses and improve its profit margins on videogames distributed through digital download.
