The game world spans from London to Aceh. Player can decide which role to take, be it trader, pirate or soldier. More than 100 missions provide challenges for all roles. The game focuses strongly on player ship and naval battles. There are 10 different ship types to choose from, from small and agile sloops to lumbering merchantmen and to ships-of-the-line that bristle whit powerful cannons.
Special characters are hired and used to boost the abilities of the ship and her crew. Special characters include such persons as marine snipers, surgeon, cannon officer and navigator. Different weather modes make naval battles challenging but fun and visually stunning. Bloody boarding actions are included as means to take over enemy ships and steal their cargo.
Trading and exploring exotic locations are also a big part of the gaming experience. There are more than 40 cities, towns and villages to visit and do trading in. Beyond wealth, there is also military and political power to be acquired. And no, there is no dancing.
Perhaps the most powerful company ever, British East Indian Company dominated trade, politics and military situation in the East Indies during middle 18th century. East Indian co. was a nation of its own: it had rights to print money, have standing armies, declare wars and of course it dominated the highly profitable trade, hauling tea, spices, gold, diamonds and other items back to Europe.
It was a time when a single man, regardless of his backround, could create his fortune in the exotic lands full of adventure but also perils. Such a man was Robert Clive for example, simple scribe who rose to be governor and high commander, became a lord and amassed wealth beyond what normal man could imagine.
William Kidd, notorius Captain Kidd, was not so lucky. Originally pirate hunter, Kidd turned to piracy himself and met his end at the gallows pole. But legend says, he had time to bury his treasure to some hidden location…
Those were dangerous times and many perished. Pirates plagued the trading routes, british, dutch and french fought for the domination of East Indies, local maharajas had huge wealth and equally huge armies in their command.
Player faces all the opportunities and perils this rich backround provides.
New finnish game development company Encore Games is looking for a publisher for their game East India Company, scheduled for release on 2008.
