Grimoire Weiss is a book - a talking book who essentially acts as a companion to Nier throughout the game.  Nier’s magic spells are made possible by Grimoire Weiss who lends his awesome power to Nier. The power and effect of these abilities are varied depending on the kinds of magic being used. And by saving up magic power and charging spells before release, Nier can unleash more powerful attacks.

The Grimoire Weiss was sealed deep in the old shrine, protected by massive golems. The reason why it was sealed, and who sealed it there, remain mysteries to be solved within the journey of the game.

Dark Execution (Offensive Spell)

• Shoots magic spears vertically from out of the ground
• This attack will skewer enemies within range.
• By holding the controller button down to “charge up” the magic power before unleash, Nier will increase the number of magic spears cast, and as a result, increase the area of effect.

Dark Wall (Defensive Spell)

• Produces a magic wall that defends NIER from attack.
  • There are some attacks that this magic can’t protect from
• By holding the controller button down to “charge up” the magic power before unleashing, Nier will produce an even stronger shield that prevents attack from any directions.

Dark Phantom (Offensive Spell)

• A phantom (Nier’s shadow) will unleash high-speed attacks against enemies in the target range.
• By holding the controller button down to “charge up” the magic power before unleash, the phantom’s target range will be wider and attack number will be increased.
