'Battlefield 4' (ALL) Fall Update Adds New Map, Vehicle Balance

by Rainier on Oct. 27, 2015 @ 4:48 p.m. PDT

Powered By the Frostbite 3 engine, Battlefield 4 offers players a glimpse into that is more human, dramatic and believable than anything before it, where multiplayer game design elements are incorporated into the single-player campaign.

In single-player, gamers will experience huge environments, a playground of destruction, access to an arsenal of vehicles and the ability to direct squad mates. Taking a page from the social aspect of multiplayer gaming, the single-player mode will now track players’ progress, adding an element of persistence and friendly competition to the campaign.

The world is on the brink of chaos, China is the tinderbox and you and your squad are the inadvertent spark that could ignite a global conflict. This is Battlefield 4. As Sergeant Daniel Recker, you play as a member of an elite group of unlikely heroes known as Tombstone squad, navigating the turmoil around you as you fight to save the final hope for peace.

The Community Map Project led to the creation of the Operation Outbreak map, and it’s rolling out worldwide today with Battlefield 4 Community Operations. Grab the free DLC from the Origin My Games tab or the PlayStation PS Store or Xbox Marketplace.

The map Operation Outbreak was made hand-in-hand with the community. We started out by setting some basic guidelines, and then we started asking questions via polls. These polls directed what the map ended up like. In the end, your votes created a jungle map that was highly destructible, infantry focused, and medium-sized.

Like most Battlefield maps, Operation Outbreak has a story behind it. A secret Indonesian medical research facility has been developing a virus… and testing that virus on monkeys. An incident where the monkeys got loose and wreaked havoc on the surrounding valley was picked up by military intelligence, prompting the US and China forces to send a force to the area to seize the research.

The community also helped choose the points of interest of the map which resulted in the five major ones we have today: Medical Facility, Temple, Ghost Town, Fishing Village, and the Palm Oil Plantation. Initially, there was no Temple planned for the map, but popular demand from the community showed that it was something people really wanted. We used your feedback and made the waterfall we were working on into a Temple ruins with some really interesting gameplay.

Operation Outbreak supports the following game modes:

·Conquest Large/Small
·Rush
·Domination
·Obliteration
·Squad Obliteration
·Team Death Match x2
·Gun Master x2
·Squad Death Match x2
·Chainlink
·Capture The Flag

VEHICLE BALANCE PASS

In this release we have an extensive amount of improvements and changes to vehicles, vehicle related gadgets and infantry gameplay related to vehicles. To understand what our rationale or intent was with these changes, let’s start with a brief summary:

  • Ground vehicles: Improve Mobility and countermeasures to make vehicles more powerful overall
  • Air vehicles: Add below radar support, improve counter measures and overhaul AA-missile balance for a more dynamic setup
  • Vehicle weapons: Re-balance vehicle weapons to give a more meaningful spectrum of choices between competing options per vehicle. All weapons should have a good use case and niche now.
  • Mobile Anti Air: Reduce effective range of MAA so it has to advance into the fray a bit more, while still maintaining its role as the counter to aircraft.

To put the pretty massive change list in context, we decided to list everything grouped by category and with a clear intent statement at the top followed by the detailed changes list.
