'Gauntlet' Free Major Content Update Coming

by Rainier on May 25, 2015 @ 6:16 p.m. PDT

Gauntlet is a completely modernized action RPG version of the classic dungeon crawler.

Gauntlet innovates on past titles while staying true to the brand's legendary format. Players select from four classic fantasy-based characters: Warrior, Wizard, Valkyrie, or Elf. Each character has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. For example, the Warrior does the most damage in melee combat, the Wizard has the most powerful magic, the Valkyrie has the most armor and the Elf moves the fastest. Distinctive play styles, procedural dungeons and an impressive art style keep the gameplay fresh.

Upon selecting a playable character, the gameplay is set within dungeons where the object is to fight through the chambers slaying evil creatures and completing challenges. An assortment of special items can be located in each dungeon that can restore the player's health, unlock doors, and shift the odds in the player's favor with magical relics which can aid the player in surviving longer in the Gauntlet. The enemies are a vast assortment of fantasy-based monsters, including ghosts, grunts, demons, spiders, sorcerers and skeleton warriors.

Gauntlet fans,

I know that you have been in the dark for a while now, possibly thinking that we were concentrating all our efforts on other things.

I am here to tell you that this is not the case and that the team has been tirelessly working on the game. We have big improvements and a few new features coming up for Gauntlet! Something which we know a lot of you were crying out for.

I can’t tell you too much right now, but if you keep watching this space we will be releasing little teasers and tidbits of information over the next few months.

In truth, we were never fully satisfied with how Gauntlet turned out. So, rather than just fixing little things here and there, we have been working on the core of the game to turn it into what we originally envisioned.

This will mean a free major content update for the game, including improvements to the Campaign and the Colosseum as well as a brand new game mode. I’m pretty sure I was allowed to tell you about the game mode…

Additionally, Arrowhead is taking over management of the Gauntlet online communities from now on. You can talk to us directly on the Gauntlet Steam forumGauntlet’s Facebook page and @playgauntlet Twitter.

We will share all the latest news and try to answer your questions daily. We’re also digging through your past posts to find issues we might need to look into.

I think the PR-people are onto me. Gotta go.

Emil Englund – Game Director

Gauntlet is available as digital download ($19.99) via Steam, offering full support for SteamOS, and the upcoming Steam Machines in 2015.
