'Ghost Recon Wildlands' (ALL) Special Operation 2: Operation Archangel Adds Rainbow Six Siege Operators - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on July 23, 2018 @ 9:23 a.m. PDT

Set a few years from now, Ghost Recon Wildlands lets you lead a four-player team of Ghosts on a covert mission to eliminate the Santa Blanca drug cartel.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is a military shooter set in a massive, dangerous, and responsive open world that you can play entirely solo or in four-player co-op.

Bolivia, a few years from now: this beautiful South American country has become the largest cocaine producer in the world. The influential and vicious Santa Blanca drug cartel has turned the country into a narco-state, leading to lawlessness, fear, injustice, and violence. The cartel is on track to becoming a major underworld power and global threat.

An all-out war is not the answer. A surgical, stealthy, lethal approach is the only way to stop the disease at its source. The Ghosts, an elite US Special Forces team, are sent behind enemy lines to wreak havoc, destabilize, and eventually break the alliance between the cartel and the corrupted government.

Facing an almighty enemy in a massive and hostile environment, the Ghosts will need to make critical moral choices and engage in tough battles to complete their mission – their grittiest and most dangerous operation to date.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will be colliding in a free and exclusive crossover mission as part of Special Operation 2, as players will be able to team up with Valkyrie, Twitch and Caveira in this two-part crossover event available tomorrow, July 24, on all platforms.

Starting July 24 for all players, exclusive Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege–themed content will be introduced to the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands main campaign and Ghost War PvP mode, including two new Rainbow Six Siege–inspired Ghost War PvP classes and a two-part PvE mission, called Operation Archangel,.  The Rainbow Six Siege Operator Caveira has gone missing. Valkyrie, a longtime friend of Karen Bowman, has tracked her down to Bolivia. With the help of Twitch, the Ghosts will follow a trail of clues, to learn more about why Caveira is in Bolivia, and also about her troubled past. This special challenge is playable solo or with up to four players in co-op and can be found in the province of Caimanes.

Upon completing Operation Archangel before August 14, players will be rewarded with Caveira gloves. When equipped, players will be able to perform Caveira’s iconic CQC move and automatically unlock the position of all enemies in the vicinity. In addition to the rewards for completing the challenge, players can further customize and arm their Ghosts with the Rainbow Six Gear Pack, which includes new customization items and weapons such as Caveira’s iconic Luison handgun, a fully customizable HK 416 assault rifle, a head-wrapped shemagh inspired by Valkyrie and a skull balaclava inspired by Twitch.

Special Operation 2 will also bring two new Ghost War PvP classes, Toxic and Surgeon, which were inspired by Smoke and Doc of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. Toxic uses his drone to deploy a large cloud of toxic smoke, which allows players to both trap the enemy team and create area denials, while Surgeon uses his stim pistol to revive teammates from a distance, creating new opportunities to deploy support strategies at medium range. In addition to two new classes, this update will also contain two new PvP maps, Factory and Checkpoint, a new spectate feature called Observer mode and Ghost mode, a higher difficulty permadeath PvE game mode.

Special Operation 2 will be released on July 24 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The update will contain a brand-new PvE experience, a new Ghost War PvP update, as well as another highly requested feature from the community, a permadeath PvE game mode called Ghost Mode.

Ghost Mode will expand on the game’s PvE experience by introducing a new mode, for both solo and co-op, which raises the stakes with thrilling conditions such as permadeath and real reloading. Available on July 24 for Year 2 pass owners, Ghost Mode will truly put players’ skills to the test by tasking them with taking down the Santa Blanca Cartel under new conditions for exclusive rewards. The full list of new Ghost Mode conditions are:

  • Permadeath: If players are not revived when down, their game is over and progression is reset.
  • New Loadout: Players will only be able to use one main weapon and one handgun.
  • Real Reloading: When players reload with a partially full clip, remaining bullets will be lost.
  • Friendly Fire: Players’ shots and actions can cause damage to teammates.
  • Gear Management: Players can only switch weapons at ammo boxes or by looting enemies.
  • Teammate Removal: For a true solo experience, players can now choose to play without AI teammates (also available in the main campaign of the game).

In addition to Ghost Mode, Special Operation 2 will also have a wealth of new Ghost War PvP–focused features, including a brand-new free-roam camera tool to make matches more spectator- and tournament-friendly. These features include:

  • Two New PvP Classes will be introduced (available starting July 24 for Year 2 Pass owners)
  • Two New PvP Maps, including a highly requested snow-terrain map.
  • Observer Mode: A new spectate feature that can be used to watch and showcase custom PvP matches through specific tools and a free-roam camera.
  • New Ranked Features: Introduction of a new Progression Bar that tracks Ranked progress, showing players their position in the current league.
  • Post-Match Celebration Screen: A new post-match screen where the winning team is showcased.
  • Social Items: A new feature consisting of emotes, voice lines and victory poses to further personalize players’ experiences (also available in the main campaign of the game).

For players looking to try out all these new features early, the Ghost Recon Wildlands Year 2 Pass offers seven-day early access to Ghost Mode and the two new Ghost War classes, along with exclusive customization packs. Non-owners of the Year 2 Pass will be able to access these features for free on July 31. The Ghost Recon Wildlands Year 2 Pass is available digitally for $29.99.
