'Axiom Verge' (ALL) Will Be Free On Epic Games Store Next Month

by Rainier on Jan. 25, 2019 @ 12:24 a.m. PST

Axiom Verge is a side-scrolling action/adventure that applies a fresh take on classic 8-bit games by using glitches as an important game mechanic.

In Axiom Verge you play as Trace, a relatively normal scientist who suffers a fatal-ish injury after a lab accident, after which he wakes up in a strange, unsettling new world that is both high-tech and incredibly ancient.

You need to uncover the mystery of how that world came to the state it’s in and your role in it all. Similar to classic games like Super Metroid, Contra, Blaster Master and others, the gameplay incorporates a mix of exploration, hidden powerups, strange creatures to fight, and epic boss battles.

Once The Jackbox Party Pack, the current free game on the Epic Games Store, has run its course it will be up to Axiom Verge, which will gratis starting on February 7 until February 21, 2019.

Features:

  • Explore an expansive non-linear alien world with more than 900 unique, interlocking rooms.
  • Gobs of unique tools and abilities, loads of weapons, and tons of health/power/attribute upgrades.
  • Battle with unique creatures and gigantic screen-filling bosses.
  • Utilize retro-styled "glitches" to break past the boundaries of normal gameplay.
  • Dedicated Speedrun Mode – Play a streamlined mode for speedrunners that strips out all story elements and includes a built-in timer with milestone time tracking.
