'Dead Cells' (ALL) Surpasses 5 Million Units Sold

by Rainier on March 19, 2021 @ 8:57 a.m. PDT

Dead Cells is a roguelike, Castlevania-inspired action-platformer, allowing you to explore a sprawling, ever-changing castle… assuming you're able to fight your way past its keepers.

To beat the game you’ll have to master 2D souls-like combat with the ever present threat of permadeath looming. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat.

Roguelike, Rogue-lite, roguelike-like, rogueschmike! The world needs more of these and we'd like to present for your consideration, the RogueVANIA. This means an interconnected world that you unlock progressively through exploration and battling bosses, with death replacing backtracking. Each death will unlock more of the world and you’ll begin to understand the scale of the choices in front of you. Sick of the stinking sewers? Why not go over the ramparts? It’s your skill, playstyle and of course the loot you find that will determine your choice your path.

But don’t think this will be a walk in the park. Pattern based monsters, and demanding boss fights will force you to fight cautiously and build your strength. Every weapon has its own unique feel and rolling and dodging will become second nature as you learn to manage the mobs of monsters that will overwhelm the unprepared. Tough, but fair.

Tired of the violence and death? Explore a bit, take a stroll, enjoy the view from the ramparts, find a secret room. Thomas and Gwen, our graphic artists, never miss an opportunity to impress with their pixelart and shape a world that you’ll want to explore. You might even learn a little more about the lore of the place, who knows?

Take a break from the frenzy of the castle and have a stroll through some luxurious scenery: Playdigious, in association with Motion Twin and Evil Empire, announced today that Dead Cells' The Bad Seed DLC will sprout on mobile devices on March 30 for $3.99/€3.99.

Also revealed today is the news that Dead Cells has crossed 5 million units sold worldwide across all platforms, including 1 million mobile units sold in China within just a few days.

The Bad Seed DLC for mobile players provides a new and alternate early route for those who wish to keep their feet dry from the Sewers or are too afraid of the heights of the Remparts.

  • New levels to lose your head in - the not-so-peaceful Dilapidated Arboretum and the noxious Morass of the Banished
  • New monsters to rip to pieces - get to know the locals, such as the Jerkshroom and the Yeeter
  • New weapons to play with - trim sticking out heads with the Scythe Claw, or make them dance to the sound of the Rhythm n' Bouzouki
  • New boss to fight against - Mama Tick is dying to meet you

Custom run is under consideration for future updates.

Winner and nominee for dozens of Game of the Year 2018 awards, Dead Cells is a critically-acclaimed roguelite metroidvania action platformer set within an unpredictable castle packed with dark secrets, game changing items and hordes of deadly beasts. Players face tough risk-reward decisions, building their loadout from an incredibly diverse arsenal of weapons and abilities in the hopes of dodging the castle’s omnipresent threat of permadeath. A steady series of post-launch updates addressing fan feedback has evolved Dead Cells, keeping its action-centric adventure as surprising as it is rewarding.
