'Exoprimal' Reveals More Details About Savage Gauntlet PvE Mode And Exosuit Variants

by Rainier on June 13, 2023 @ 2:20 p.m. PDT

Exoprimal is a team-based action game set to unleash a prehistoric blast from the past on the near future, blending a new co-op experience with a competitive edge.

Suit up in powered armor to put down dinosaur invasions and save humanity from extinction when the Exofighters deploy for battle.

It’s 2040 and the planet is in crisis. Dinosaurs are appearing from thin air and laying waste to cities across the globe. Threatened by history’s deadliest creatures, the world turns to the powerful Aibius Corporation and its revolutionary technology for help. The company’s next-generation AI, Leviathan, can forecast where dinosaur outbreaks will occur and deploy Exofighters to the area. Armed with state-of-the-art mechanized combat armor known as Exosuits, these warriors represent humanity’s last hope.

Vortexes are opening in the sky, flooding cities with deadly creatures from the prehistoric era. As raptors cascade from above and Tyrannosaurus Rexes stomp through the streets, it’s up to squads of five brave Exofighters in mechanized combat armor, known as Exosuits, to fight back against the dinosaurs who threaten to push humanity toward extinction.

Exoprimal pioneers a new multiplayer experience rooted in co-op – but with a competitive edge. In the game’s main mode, Dino Survival, teams fight for every breath against countless dinosaurs while racing to complete missions before rival squads in 5v5 matches. A dynamic mix of objectives keeps players on their guard and ensures each match is different form the last. Exofighters will need to stay on their toes as hunts transition into precious cargo deliveries or desperate last stands against relentless assaults. Opposing teams are even given opportunities to tackle adversaries head-on and impede their progress. While Exoprimal is purely focused around multiplayer, a narrative is interwoven throughout the game. Players can sink their teeth into the world’s rich history and colorful characters by unlocking new story threads and piecing together the mystery behind the dinosaur outbreaks.

Capcom presented an in-depth look at a brand-new player versus environment (PvE) game mode coming to Exoprimal called Savage Gauntlet. Alongside detailing this new co-op experience, the event debuted additional Exosuit variants joining the roster in a post-launch update.

“Challenge Module, Online!” in Savage Gauntlet

In Savage Gauntlet, teams of five players will take on special PvE missions that rotate weekly. Squads around the world will meet the same enemies, stages, and objectives as they vie for the fastest completion times and top ranks of the global leaderboards.

Savage Gauntlet missions are late-game content that will offer a higher level of challenge. For example, Exofighters may find themselves face-to-face with several larger dinosaurs at once. Bringing leveled-up exosuits into these combat tests and equipping Modules will improve your chances of survival and success. Rally your friends, build strategies, and see if you have what it takes to come out on top.

Once missions conclude, squads receive a rank such as “A” or “B” based on how quickly and skillfully they complete objectives. Exofighters who achieve higher ranks can get their hands on exciting rewards. Missions are replayable, and you’re welcome to return with new strategies as you aim for a faster completion time.

Variant Exosuits

Variant exosuits feature distinct combat styles and equip unique weapons that differ from default exosuit models. These suits offer an even wider array of combat options to overcome the challenges presented in Leviathan’s ever-changing wargames. Consider incorporating them into your team as you fight for survival.

For example, Deadeye comes equipped with an assault rifle. The Deadeye Alpha: Burst Fire variant suit wields a versatile weapon with both shotgun and burst fire capabilities, allowing you to unleash a range of both short- and long-distance attacks based on proximity to enemy threats.

The full list of Alpha variant Exosuits includes:

  • Deadeye Alpha: Burst Fire
  • Zephyr Alpha: Energy Chakram
  • Barrage Alpha: Rocket Hop
  • Vigilant Alpha: Marksman
  • Roadblock Alpha: Fortress Shield
  • Krieger Alpha: Charge Shotgun
  • Murasame Alpha: Frost Glaive
  • Witchdoctor Alpha: Duality Beam
  • Skywave Alpha: Thunderclap
  • Nimbus Alpha: Double Barrel

The Alpha variant Exosuits are coming to Exoprimal in a post-launch title update.

After launch, Exofighters can look forward to the addition of variant exosuits, new missions, stages, and a variety of other contents in free post-launch title updates. We plan to share the game’s roadmap at a later date, so stay tuned to see what else is on the way.

A second Exoprimal Open Beta Test is imminent. The online team-based action returns Thursday, June 15 at 5:00pm PDT - Sunday, June 18 at 4:59pm PDT across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam. The Open Beta Test 2 includes new elements, including 10-player co-op missions and story content that provides a more in-depth look at the ever-changing main game mode, Dino Survival. Open Beta Test 2 participants will also qualify to receive the “Flash” Zephyr skin as special bonus item in the full game.

Exofighters are always outnumbered and must work together to overcome overwhelming odds. Their Exosuits come in an array of classes, each playing a distinct role in combat. Assault models like the marksman Deadeye and the melee-oriented Zephyr excel at cutting down enemy swarms. Meanwhile, tanks such as the shield-bearing Roadblock and support types like the vital Witchdoctor help keep everyone alive to fight another day. Every model is outfitted with a unique armory and special abilities. Thanks to the efforts of the Aibius Corporation, Exosuits can be swapped out in the middle of combat, allowing your team to change tactics at a moment’s notice without having to disengage from a fight.

Aibius is also behind the development of Leviathan, an artificial intelligence which is instrumental in predicting where vortexes will open next. Leviathan acts as a navigator, providing constantly evolving objectives throughout each match, and instructing your squad on what your next task will be.

Your elite team will always be outnumbered by massive swarms of dinosaurs, but between the power of Exosuits and Leviathan’s guidance, you’ll be able to slowly piece together what’s going on in the world of Exoprimal. As you play, you’ll unlock narrative elements and story threads that will weave together to provide more insight into this near-future world plagued by dinosaur outbreaks.

Exoprimal is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) on July 14, 2023.
