'Monster Jam Showdown' Shows Off Its Showdown Tour Career Mode - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 8, 2024 @ 2:45 p.m. PDT

Monster Jam Showdown takes advantage of cutting-edge technology to create lifelike, meticulously detailed environments as well as an unprecedented lighting and physics system.

Developed with Unreal Engine 5, Milestone has been able to empower gameplay possibilities and seeks to provide a fulfilling experience able to give players all the best of Monster Jam, and much more.

In addition to enjoying all the action of the official competitions, players will be able to drive iconic monster trucks in unique environments, facing a variety of events which will make the fun as big and as loud as the sport itself. Monster Jam Showdown will feature a total of 66 official Monster Jam trucks (40 trucks will be included in the base game and 26 will be available through free or premium DLCs), and more than 140 paint jobs to unlock and apply. In order to create a faithful reproduction of Monster Jam live events, fans will compete in all three categories of venues, namely American football fields, baseball stadiums, and speedways, providing varying experiences between rectangular, diamond, and oval layouts.

Beyond that, players will be able to drive their favorite Monster Jam trucks in three original environments inspired by the American great outdoors: the barren desert of Death Valley, the stunning forests and crystal rivers of Colorado, and the wintry, wild mountains of Alaska. From official competitions such as head-to-head racing and freestyle to specially designed events, a total of 10 different game modes will grant a robust mix of arcade experiences both online and offline, including split-screen.

Get behind the wheel and go full throttle on your way to becoming a Monster Jam legend in Monster Jam Showdown’s career mode, Showdown Tour. Players will be able to pick and choose the events they want to compete in while adding iconic monster trucks to their collection along the way. Master all the skills and cement your legacy as the greatest Monster Jam driver.

Featuring over 130 events grouped into three categories, the Showdown Tour’s non-linear progression lets players enjoy a variety of competitions that will test their speed and skill. Designed to welcome different playstyles and promote the strengths of each player, every victory will unlock new events in the same category. This way, players will constantly find new challenges that fit the way they want to play. Despite fitting in the same category though, each challenge will include several game modes and let players explore all three original environments of the game.

The locations of the Showdown Tour are wild and out of the ordinary, the perfect place to push Monster Jam trucks to the limit and unleash their full power beyond what they are capable of during live events. Following a free-progression approach, it will be possible to race the untamed landscapes of Alaska, Colorado, and Death Valley from the very first minutes of play with new events gradually appearing on the map as players advance. For example, completing a Freestyle competition in Colorado might unlock a new Freestyle contest in a different region, or a new game mode like a Best Trick match.

By achieving victories within the same event category, players will collect tokens that can be used to access Showdown Events: special boss battles that give access to career advancements. Here, players can prove themselves behind the wheels of iconic Monster Jam trucks by competing against their previous drivers. If successful, the rival truck will be added to the player’s private collection and new, even more difficult events will be unlocked.

Showdown Events are more than one-on-one races; being fast will not be enough to secure a victory. Players will also have to please the crowd by performing crazy jumps and destroying as many objects as possible to make the most spectacular run.

This design will leave players free to decide whether to progress within the same category by completing the most difficult events or to test themselves in another category. However, mastering all categories will be required to fully complete their career and collect all 66 vehicles* and over 140 paint outs available in the game.

To immediately deliver the feeling and excitement of mastering 1,500 horsepower mechanical machines, Monster Jam Showdown will feature arcade gameplay as well as comprehensive and customizable driving aids. This way, everyone will be able to dive into the true spirit of Monster Jam by easily performing massive maneuvers and dynamic stunts while smashing the competition. At the same time, Milestone’s technology and expertise will ensure truthful physics in order to deliver an approachable yet rewarding experience.

Monster Jam Showdown is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) on August 29, 2024.
