'007 First Light' Introduces Creative Approach Gameplay Through Gadgets, Combat And Spycraft, Unveils Its Hitman-Like Tactical Sim Mode - Trailer

by Rainier on April 22, 2026 @ 3:30 p.m. PDT

007 First Light (previously known as Project 007) features a wholly original Bond story and will see players earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story.

007 First Light is a third-person action-adventure game that blends IO Interactive’s signature stealth and action gameplay mechanics with the world of Bond and MI6. Players will choose how to utilize Bond’s unique set of skills in combat, relationships, as well as the latest in Q’s technological gadgetry in his ascent to becoming 007. Along the way, they will meet familiar faces like M, Q, and Moneypenny, and be introduced to new characters including Bond’s mentor John Greenway, the mysterious Isola, as well as a whole new cast of villains.

This unique, standalone original story has been created by the passionate development team at IO Interactive. In 007 First Light, players will step into the shoes of a young Bond, a promising yet rebellious Royal Navy air crewman who is recruited into MI6. His sharp instincts and heroism in combat propel him into the agency’s rigorous training program for the once revered, and newly resurrected, elite 00 section.

For the first time ever, fans will be able to experience Bond’s ascent at MI6 from a young 26-year-old recruit into a full-fledged spy – immersing them in the exotic and dangerous world of espionage captured in the films. Bond’s adventures will take players all around the globe, coming face to face with allies and foes (or in some cases, both), while choosing how they overcome obstacles and challenges, whether it be with brute force, cunning guile, or charming wit.

Alongside the freedom of Creative Approach, 007 First Light delivers the bold, cinematic set-pieces that define the Bond franchise. Players will experience thrilling, gripping moments such as high-speed chases, breathtaking shootouts, battling enemies aboard a hacked airplane, and being thrown out into the open sky. These showstoppers are handcrafted to capture the danger, elegance, and spectacle of Bond’s world, while showcasing his evolution into an elite agent capable of handling every challenge that he is presented with.

Stealth, spycraft, improvisation with gadgets from Q Branch, melee and ranged combat, as well as Bond’s Instinct will all be tools at the player’s disposal, giving them the freedom to tackle missions their way. Alongside the Creative Approach, 007 First Light will offer bold, cinematic set-pieces that define the Bond franchise, whether it’s high-speed chases, intense shootouts, or a heart-pounding fight aboard a hacked airplane that sends Bond into the open sky without a parachute. Every element is designed to capture the danger, elegance, and spectacle of Bond’s introduction to the world of espionage.

IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios revealed a new trailer for 007 First Light, with a new look at the game’s key features.

The new Rules of Spycraft trailer for 007 First Light pulls back the curtain on what it means to operate as a modern MI6 recruit. The 007 number will have to be earned, with players set to go on a reimagined origin story, where every encounter can be navigated with stealth, bluffing, or full-on action, depending on how you read the room.

The brand-new trailer unveils how 007 First Light puts creativity front and center through its Creative Approach gameplay. Built on IO Interactive’s spy-thriller expertise and designed to let players tackle objectives their own way, powered by quick-thinking improvisation:

  • Spycraft: Infiltrate spaces by reading your surroundings and staying one step ahead, eavesdrop to pick up intel, identify opportunities to access your objectives, then use bluffing and social stealth to move through guarded areas without raising alarms.
  • Gadgets (Q Branch): Build a mission loadout around tools that enable stealth, distractions, and creative problem-solving. In 007 First Light, James Bond will have access to the Q‑Lens (highlights useful information and hackable devices), the Q‑Watch (activates gadgets and interactions to divert attention or neutralize threats), the Laser Strap (can daze enemies, open up new paths, or create distractions using the environment), the Dart Phone (quietly moves enemies out of the way), the Smoke Pod (blocks visibility at short range), the Flash Mine (produces a burst of light to momentarily stun opponents) and more.
  • Combat: When stealth breaks, fight smart. Players can use the environment for close-quarters takedowns, rush their enemies before a shootout breaks out, or make use of their Focus to slow the moment for precision disarms and targeted takedowns. Weapons are flexible tools too; players can throw their weapon when ammo runs out to daze an enemy.

Players will also be able to enjoy the Tactical Simulation mode to improve their skills after each mission. Tactical Simulation is a replay-focused mode that unlocks after completing Bond’s training. Set in an exclusive MI6 space, spearheaded by Dr. Selina Tan (portrayed by Gemma Chan), with interactive consoles and an in-world display of collectibles, TacSim offers multiple missions that unlock as you progress through the story and challenges you to continuously improve your performance as an agent. Each mission is scored via the Agent Score and supports global and friends’ leaderboards. Completing TacSim missions earns XP and Intel: XP increases your Clearance Level to unlock new sets of skins for the weapons and gadgets, as well as cosmetics, while Intel will enable players to acquire these new skins and cosmetics.

Key Features:

  • BECOME 007: Discover a new standalone, re-imagined James Bond origin story, and the events that lead an audacious young hero to become the best MI6 agent.
  • A THRILLING ESPIONAGE ADVENTURE: Embark on missions in breathtaking locations, drive iconic vehicles, and dive into a cinematic adventure in pursuit of a rogue agent who’s always one step ahead.
  • SPYING, YOUR WAY: Go silent or go loud. Whether fighting with fists or firepower, using gadgets to infiltrate, or bluffing your way past guards, the approach is entirely up to you.
  • WELCOME TO MI6: Test your skills and replay your favorite missions with additional modifiers, for endless espionage fun!
