Why do people do the things they do?
You play as a little girl trying to find her place in a society that forces conformity, but you're different, and they don't like it.
A creepy, story rich, cute and disturbing point & click adventure about anxiety, perseverance, giving up or fighting back, the choice is yours.
Unlike traditional point-and-click adventures, your inventory isn't filled with keys or crowbars. Instead, you collect Ideas. Concepts like Eye Contact, Humor, or Flattery become the tools you use to navigate the world. However, your ability to use them is governed by three shifting mental states:
- A "Resilience" score that changes world perception and main character's actions. It increases on good interactions and decreases on bad ones.
- A "Trust" score that changes the way the main character interacts with The Others.
- An "Anxiety" score that changes the main character's ability to speak or do certain things.
You aren't alone. An Alter Ego follows you around. Sometimes it's very critical, sometimes scared, sometimes paranoic. Don't trust everything it says.
Will you try to fit in, or embrace the isolation of being different?
"After more than 10 years in the game dev industry, working on games such as Gibbous: A Cthulhu Adventure and Near-Mage, Hell Is Other People is my first leap into the world of solo development. This game is deeply personal. It's inspired by my own experiences as an anxious, over-thinking little girl trying to understand the 'hidden' rules of the world. Every frame of animation was hand-painted by me, every line of dialogue written from the heart, and every note of the soundtrack composed to capture what it felt like to experience that."
Key Features:
- Your inventory items are not objects but ideas you picked up along the way, like making eye contact, using humor, or flattery;
- Meters for Resilience, Trust, Anxiety - all influencing the way the character interacts with The Others;
- An alter ego that follows you around. Sometimes it's very critical, sometimes scared, sometimes paranoiac. Don't trust everything it says.
- Choices matter: will you try to fit in or embrace being different?
- A surreal interpretation of the weirdness of humans;
- Hand painted and animated frame by frame;
- Original soundtrack;
- No generative AI was used in the production of this game. I've created all the art, animation, music, writing myself.
Hell Is Other People is in development for PC (Steam).
