Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is the next installment in the RTS franchise bringing loyal commanders deep solo campaigns, classic Warhammer storytelling, and even a painter tool to customize your units on the field.

In the grim darkness of the far future, war has returned to the ravaged world of Kronus.

Prepare to unleash hell in Dawn of War IV, the next chapter in the iconic Warhammer 40,000 RTS series.

Set many years after the events of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, war has returned to the planet Kronus, along with Captain Cyrus, Chief Librarian Jonah Orion and Warboss Gorgutz and several new commanders as four factions fight for supremacy. Kronus features a number of distinct biomes including the Wasteland, Iceland, Highlands, Hive City & Manufactorum regions.

Cyrus narrates his own life of duty, war, and sacrifice, revealing the four main playable factions: Space Marines (Blood Ravens), Orks, Adeptus Mechanicus, and the Necrons, and returning characters such as Jonah and Gorgutz. It shows the grim, dark, and brutal nature of war at an epic scale, both ranged and melee.

Fight through 70+ epic campaign missions solo or with a friend as you experience a story crafted by legendary Black Library author John French. Immerse yourself in endlessly replayable modes including Last Stand and Skirmish, or take the fight to the world with intense multiplayer combat.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV marks a triumphant return to the franchise's roots, with classic base-building, large armies, and deep strategic gameplay all brought to life through modern innovations and a fresh narrative set on the iconic planet Kronus, approximately 200 years after the events of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.

Enjoy an endlessly replayable collection of game modes, including the return of fan-favourite Last Stand! Fight highly-configurable AI battles in Skirmish, or take on the world in 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 multiplayer. Wherever you’re waging war, use the Painter tool to stamp your own unique personality on your fighting forces, as well as the option to use existing factions from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

The RTS King is back...and is bigger than ever!

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war — and now, its next campaign has a date. Deep Silver and KING Art Games revealed that Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV will launch on September 17, with Commander Edition players able to play from September 14.

See the war for Kronus unfold in the above Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV Release Date & Post-Launch Roadmap reveal trailer.

Standard and Commander Editions

Two war-packs have been sanctioned for deployment; now available for pre-order.

  • The Standard Edition includes the base game, will release on September 17, and is available to pre-order with a 10% discount.
  • The Commander Edition is also available at a 10% pre-order discount and includes a 3-Day Early Unlock, allowing players to begin their campaign on September 14.

In addition, the Commander Edition includes all Year One content and the official digital soundtrack - a full arsenal for those prepared to command the war for Kronus.

Year One Expansion Overview

One planet. Endless war. On Kronus, the war does not end with a single campaign. Over time, the conflict deepens. Following launch, a year of free content updates and paid DLC will expand the battlefield.

Free Deployments

Arriving in Fall 2026, the fan-favorite Crusade Mode returns. Every decision and victory shapes the course of war, bringing even greater strategic depth and replayability to the campaign. Build your army, lead legendary commanders, and fight to dominate the map.

A series of free updates will introduce new modes, map packs, and the Mission Editor — allowing players to create, play, and share their own battles.

Additional Commanders will also join Last Stand mode, each featuring new abilities, loadouts, and playstyles. These Commanders will bring their own bespoke Crusades, complete with unique objectives and gameplay twists.

Paid Operations

Two major campaign expansions will deepen the conflict on Kronus in Year One.

  • The Blood Ravens Story Prologue: Before war engulfs Kronus, a Blood Ravens strike force returns to their ancestral homeworld of Aurelia. Guided by a legendary commander, their mission sets in motion events that will shape the fate of the Chapter. Fight through pivotal battles ignited by ancient relics
  • The Aftermath Campaign Expansion: Players will command a powerful new faction as the war enters its next chapter. Aftermath continues the main campaign’s story in a narrative-driven expansion that explores the consequences of your victories — and the new threats set to reshape the battlefield.
    • Adds a fifth faction to the game across all game modes
    • New playable Commanders
    • Expands the Crusade mode significantly
    • Thought the war was over? It has only begun.

Both expansions will be available separately. However, commanders who deploy with the Commander Edition will receive both paid operations as part of their war bundle.

Key Features:

  • Four fully playable and distinct factions: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus. Each of the four factions in Dawn of War IV have a separate campaign which tells a different side of the overall story, featuring a total of 70+ missions.
  • Extensive solo campaigns and other game modes: Skirmish, co-op, and competitive multiplayer, along with the return of the fan-favorite Last Stand. In each of the game’s modes, players build bases, assume control of faction Commanders, gather resources, and command units to ultimately overwhelm the enemy’s forces.
  • Legendary Warhammer storytelling at its finest: Co-written by legendary Black Library author John French, each faction has its own cinematic CGI intro, which leads into a non-linear campaign, providing a wealth of replayability for players who want to explore every inch of this epic saga.
  • Biggest Dawn of War at launch: Four distinct factions, 10+ playable Commanders, 110+ units / buildings, many of which are customizable, an in-game editor for player-created content, and a Painter tool for unit customization.
  • Modern innovation mixed with classic RTS mechanics: With the revolutionary Combat Director, gameplay will have a next-level display of visceral melee combat.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is coming to PC (Steam) on Setpember 17, 2026.
