Players will be thrust into the dark, war-torn world of Cairn where a once proud empire has been brought to ruin and the human race driven to the edge of extinction. Cairn has become ground zero of an eternal war between two otherworldly powers, one seeking to use human bodies as a resource, the other intent upon destroying the human race before that can happen. This cataclysmic war has not only decimated human civilization but is warping the very fabric of reality and, in its wake, giving life to new horrors.

For humankind it is the dawn of a grim new age where iron has replaced gold as currency and the importance of salt as a weapon makes it far too valuable to waste on food. Small enclaves of human survivors exist scattered throughout the world, holed up in hidden refuges. These humans have quietly watched the warring invaders destroy one another and have become wise to the strengths and vulnerabilities of their otherworldly foes. A few survivors have begun to exhibit strange new abilities after surviving possession or exposure to the warp. These unnatural powers are feared by some but give many new hope of launching a resistance to fight the "outsiders" and reclaim what's left of their world.

Developer Crate is excited to reveal that Fangs of Asterkarn, the third and final expansion to Grim Dawn, launches July 23rd, 2026, on Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store at $18.99.

Crate previously declared that Grim Dawn would not go out with a bang, but “with a tremendous roar,” and Fangs of Asterkarn does just that. Fangs is a bold exclamation, punctuating the ARPG’s enduring and engaging 10+ year life with the largest expansion yet, including an all-new region double the size of previous expansions, the shapeshifting Berserker mastery, and the new Ascendant mode, which turns the entire campaign into an endgame proving ground that will challenge even the most refined builds.

The journey into the land of the Asterkarn will span over 6 square kilometers, which is 190% as big as Ashes of Malmouth and 250% as large as Forgotten Gods, and features new environments that span from snowy peaks to breathtaking hot springs. These new environments are also riddled with secrets to uncover and hundreds of new treasures, such as New Epic items, unique Legendary items, and Monster Infrequents.

As players tackle this new chapter and purge the corruption tainting the land of Asterkarn, they will have new options further deepening Grim Dawn’s acclaimed ARPG gameplay. The 10th Mastery, Berserker, delivers a shapeshifting force of destruction that brings the dual-class combination options to a staggering 45, and the new potion customization system gives players a fresh way to mold their builds to their own playstyle. Alongside the massive new expansion’s release, Grim Dawn will get a QOL facelift for all players in the free v1.3 update. The biggest addition comes in the form of an overhaul and expansion of the player’s Stash so that players have a more intuitive inventory management experience as they return to their playthroughs or create a new character. Update v1.3 also includes a UI overhaul, WASD accessibility controls, HDR lighting, detailed item tooltips, balancing, and bug fixes.
