Immerse yourself in the grim reality of WW1. Dig In honors the human cost of war while delivering an engaging strategy experience.
Carve the battlefield by digging and extending trench networks where your men live, sleep, and fight. Hold fast as artillery shapes the destructible battlefield. Move supplies, reinforce your lines, and design your defenses—using barbed wire in No Man’s Land to funnel the enemy into deadly strongpoints. When the moment comes, blow the whistle and send your men over the top. What kind of commander will you be? The shepherd to your men, or their butcher?
In the fragile calm before the storm, every decision matters. Ensure your troops are fed, sheltered, and safe in your trenches. Morale will decide how long they last. Do what you can to meet the demands of High Command as you deploy sections of men who only months ago were bakers, farmers, bellboys, and foremen. Hold the line as long as you can. Because victory isn’t about advancing — it’s about surviving.
September 1914. The war has ground to a halt. Now you dig in.
Will you triumph against all odds or crumble under the weight of trench warfare? The choice is yours.
Vitar Games will bring Dig In to Steam Early Access in Q3 2026, where it will remain for about 12 months, giving the devs time to expand content, refine systems, and shape the experience alongside community feedback.
“The current Early Access version of Dig In is a closed beta build focused on the core trench warfare experience. Players can dig, fortify, and hold the line, managing squads, logistics, and combat across multiple maps (including Lorraine and St. Vaast). The core systems are in place and fully playable, but the game is still rough in places. Expect bugs, balance issues, and evolving AI behavior as development continues. This version represents the foundation of the game, with more content, systems, and polish planned throughout Early Access.”
“The full version of Dig In is planned to significantly expand both the frontline systems and the human simulation. Players can expect dugouts and tunneling, additional playable factions with faction-specific research trees, gas warfare, medical triage, casualty evacuation, raids, patrols, and air reconnaissance. Soldiers will grow more life-like over time, forming relationships with their comrades and reacting dynamically to the expanding realities of trench warfare.”
Key Features:
- Command the Frontlines: Take control of forces across multiple nations, including France, Great Britain, Austria-Hungary, Russia, and Imperial Germany, in real-time tactical engagements. Additional factions will be deployed throughout Early Access.
- Brutal – Guard the Line, Command Artillery, Go over the Top
- Eliminate waves of enemy attackers while preparing for offensives from your sector.
- Time artillery strikes to devastating effect, but beware – shells don’t discriminate.
- Send your men over the top to try and claw ground from enemy hands. How many men are you willing to lose to expand?
- Methodical – Dig Trenches, Build Infrastructure, Manage Supplies
- Shape the battlefield by building an evolving trench network, directing the flow of troops and resources.
- Create defensive, offensive, and logistical infrastructure to withstand assaults and maintain operations.
- Your men need sleep, food, and warmth to sustain morale, endure the brutal conditions, and find the strength to go over the top.
- Hold and claim battlefield quadrants to earn favour from high command. Plan and assess the situation with the historically inspired Map Overview.
- Human-Centric – Manage Troops, Dispatch Runners, Tend to Needs
- Every soldier under your command has a name, a life before the war, and unique traits. Keep morale high, tend to their needs, and weigh the human costs of every decision.
- Officers bring unique strengths and flaws based on their backgrounds – from aristocrats raised in privilege to battle-hardened survivors from the ranks.
- Runners are the lifeline of your command. Every order takes time to deliver, and miscommunication can spell disaster. Need to cancel that attack? Hope the runner makes it in time.
- The Trenches are Alive
- Dynamic Timing: Time is a weapon. Orders take time to arrive, and changing plans requires swift runners and careful planning.
- Sweat Saves Blood: Expand your trench network, set routes for your men to move where they are least exposed to enemy fire, and shore up your defenses before the enemy flanks you.
- Poor Bloody Infantry: Balance the need for butter and bullets. Keep your men fed, rested and armed – or watch the fighting spirit of your platoon collapse.
- Make the Battlefield Yours: Harvest and scavenge across fully destructible WW1 battlefield environments. Chop down trees, dismantle civilian infrastructure, and more to reinforce your defenses.
- Rewrite the Rules of War: Customize your experience with full mod support as you and your troops fight to survive another day.
Dig In is in development for PC (Steam), scheduled for 2027.
