by Rainier on July 9, 2026 @ 10:12 a.m. PDT

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is the next installment in the RTS franchise bringing loyal commanders deep solo campaigns, classic Warhammer storytelling, and even a painter tool to customize your units on the field.

In the grim darkness of the far future, war has returned to the ravaged world of Kronus.

Prepare to unleash hell in Dawn of War IV, the next chapter in the iconic Warhammer 40,000 RTS series.

Set many years after the events of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, war has returned to the planet Kronus, along with Captain Cyrus, Chief Librarian Jonah Orion and Warboss Gorgutz and several new commanders as four factions fight for supremacy. Kronus features a number of distinct biomes including the Wasteland, Iceland, Highlands, Hive City & Manufactorum regions.

Cyrus narrates his own life of duty, war, and sacrifice, revealing the four main playable factions: Space Marines (Blood Ravens), Orks, Adeptus Mechanicus, and the Necrons, and returning characters such as Jonah and Gorgutz. It shows the grim, dark, and brutal nature of war at an epic scale, both ranged and melee.

Fight through 70+ epic campaign missions solo or with a friend as you experience a story crafted by legendary Black Library author John French. Immerse yourself in endlessly replayable modes including Last Stand and Skirmish, or take the fight to the world with intense multiplayer combat.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV marks a triumphant return to the franchise's roots, with classic base-building, large armies, and deep strategic gameplay all brought to life through modern innovations and a fresh narrative set on the iconic planet Kronus, approximately 200 years after the events of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.

Enjoy an endlessly replayable collection of game modes, including the return of fan-favourite Last Stand! Fight highly-configurable AI battles in Skirmish, or take on the world in 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 multiplayer. Wherever you’re waging war, use the Painter tool to stamp your own unique personality on your fighting forces, as well as the option to use existing factions from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

The RTS King is back...and is bigger than ever!

Developer KING Art Games has provided a fresh look at Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV's multiplayer mode with two Battlefield Report videos featuring the game's four distinct factions. Across both matches, players can see how each faction offers a fundamentally different strategic approach, changing not just which units you command, but how you approach every battle.

Creative Director Jan Theysen and Senior Game Designer Elliott Verbiest face off in two 1v1 multiplayer matches, highlighting the unique identities of Dawn of War IV's factions.

This week's Battlefield Report pits the Adeptus Mechanicus against the Necrons, spotlighting two radically different approaches to victory. The Adeptus Mechanicus expand their powerful Noosphere Network, strengthen key positions with superior technology, and excel at building devastating defensive firing lines. In contrast, the relentless Necrons methodically advance their Power Matrix across the battlefield, shrug off losses through resurrection, and overwhelm opponents with unwavering pressure.

Last week's Battlefield Report introduced the elite, adaptable Space Marines against the momentum-driven Orks. This week's shifts to the defensive, technology-focused Adeptus Mechanicus versus the relentless Necrons, continuing the display of Dawn of War IV's four distinct multiplayer factions.

From resilient defensive networks to unstoppable mechanical legions, every faction in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV offers a distinct path to victory.

Can the Adeptus Mechanicus withstand the unyielding advance of the ancient Necrons?

At last, back to war!

The war will continue long after launch

The war will continue long after launch. Year One includes free updates featuring the return of Crusade Mode, new maps, modes, Commanders, and the Mission Editor, alongside two major story expansions that will deepen the conflict on Kronus and introduce a new playable faction to the battlefield.

Key Features:

  • Four fully playable and distinct factions: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus. Each of the four factions in Dawn of War IV have a separate campaign which tells a different side of the overall story, featuring a total of 70+ missions.
  • Extensive solo campaigns and other game modes: Skirmish, co-op, and competitive multiplayer, along with the return of the fan-favorite Last Stand. In each of the game’s modes, players build bases, assume control of faction Commanders, gather resources, and command units to ultimately overwhelm the enemy’s forces.
  • Legendary Warhammer storytelling at its finest: Co-written by legendary Black Library author John French, each faction has its own cinematic CGI intro, which leads into a non-linear campaign, providing a wealth of replayability for players who want to explore every inch of this epic saga.
  • Biggest Dawn of War at launch: Four distinct factions, 10+ playable Commanders, 110+ units / buildings, many of which are customizable, an in-game editor for player-created content, and a Painter tool for unit customization.
  • Modern innovation mixed with classic RTS mechanics: With the revolutionary Combat Director, gameplay will have a next-level display of visceral melee combat.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is coming to PC (Steam) on Setpember 17, 2026.
